12:49 am
tbear
That sweetheart looked all wrong...meant hope i'm wrong bout the icon....
12:50 am
mab
I noticed the icon too, and I too am much too familiar with the feeling. Poor thing.
12:51 am
mab
That's what I understood.... Dear. (Ha ha)
12:51 am

12:54 am
hackers0609
Anybody give me hints plz
12:55 am
tbear
Mab..tomoro I'm having a soiree (mustn't call it a party!!) with all spanish tapas and good red wine with my friends (includin Anj and Lola...yay) to celebrate my birthday eve. It would be so cool if you could hop in a cab and come. I'll have my laptop on and get Anj and lola and ME to chat a bit so you feel included....Lol
12:56 am
mab
Do you know Joel, nava? We are concerned because he's not been here since November. His icon seems to indicate sadness or misfortune -- it's a cartoon character. Email him if you like.
12:57 am
mab
Oh! How I would love to be there! Do, if it is convenient, pop in.
12:58 am
nava
yes, i know joel. hmm...it's a good idea to email him. thanks
12:58 am
tbear
I wonder if his ears are burning with us discussing him?? JOEL...are you out there Hun?
12:59 am
nava
i'm done for the night guys. good luck.
12:59 am
mab
Come home Joel....
12:59 am
tbear
Why don't we make todays icon a Joel retrieval day?? I'm going to anyway!!
1:01 am
mab
Good idea. In the meantime, look for his picture on milk cartons: 'have you seen this man?' Something that's done here for missing children.
1:05 am
tbear
Right he should remember this crazy bird i stole from him, just incase it's amnesia.....(hopefully in that case he won't remember the wardrobe thing!!)
1:06 am
tbear
Mabs, what apair of motherly, cat crazy, caring sharing gals we are!!
1:09 am
mab
We are. We're the best! (ha ha) Lots of parenthetical ha ha's tonight.
1:12 am
tbear

1:14 am
tbear
As it's nearly my birthday....can I put IGLOO....pls
1:15 am
mab
If the Concorde was still flying out of here, I simply pay the ungodly ticket price and show up with the hunky Captain and his co-pilot! But, alas...
1:15 am
cybernan
151 -- still no long o's, but it's bedtime for me! A demain.
1:15 am
mab
Bon nuit, cybernan.
1:16 am
tbear
Hasta manana cybernan que suenas con angelitos xx
1:17 am
tbear
Mab if I had left BA when I did..within 4/5 months I could have worked on concorde..... :( silly me....so strange to board an aircraft that smelt like an expensive lounge
1:18 am
tbear
had read hadn't...
1:18 am
cybernan
gracias, tbear
1:18 am
tbear
Pls can i put CLIMATE then....??
1:20 am
tbear
De nada Cybernan.....Mab I have a few stories re: British Airways Capts and Co-pilots.....HA HA HA HA HA HA
1:21 am
mab
Just as well, tbear, as one of them crashed. And, of course, more importantly one of them crashed filled with wealthy people.
1:23 am
mab
Pilots are probably not as sexy as one thinks, huh? Or are they philanderers with multiple wives in multiple nations?
1:24 am
tbear
One little flight would have been cool tho....Ladies and Gentlemen welcome aboard this British Airways Concorde flight to New York,my name is Tbear and you'll find me in the front galley drinking gin...pls feel free to join me at any time during the flight....only happy fun people allowed....like Babblers....lol
1:25 am
mab
It seems like a pilot would be an ideal mate. Steady, confident, intelligent, away enough of the time so they're not in one's hair constantly.
1:28 am
mab
And then there would be all those reunions.... Perfect mate.
1:29 am
tbear
Here here Mabs...Concorde flew low right over my head on it's maiden flight in the sixties (I was about 6 or 7) and when one returned to Filton on it's final run, again it flew right over me,very low...I am now slightly older, just 30 odd yrs. So emotional to see her flying for the last time...what idiots not to spend the money and keep her going
1:33 am
Dianne
I flew on the Concorde once - many years ago - Eddie Murphy and Keith Richards were on the flight. It was
very exciting to me.
1:35 am
tbear
OOooohh Dianne, you lucky lucky thing.... only been on on the ground....Everybody don't speak to Dianne...lol :)
1:36 am
tbear
Dianne I know i should know yr flag but I've not slept much for about 3 days...what is it?
1:36 am
mab
That is something, Dianne. I've never even come close to the craft, although my former sister-in-law flew often between NY and London.
1:37 am
Dianne
I know I was lucky - we had an around the world ticket and were offered either 1st class to NY or the Concorde - a no-brainer - we went on the Concorde.
It is/was a very small plane inside.
1:37 am
Dianne
tbear - I live in Hong Kong.
1:38 am
tbear
Dianne the girls used to tell me it was HELL to do a first class food and beverage service on board and looking at their galley space I can believe it....I would have managed tho!!
1:39 am
tbear
Hong Kong of course
1:39 am
tbear
Just gunna get some toast and tea...back in 5
1:40 am
Dianne
tbear - surprised you din't know it - you guys use to own it :)
1:40 am
mab
I seem to recall that Fabienne didn't care much for the experience, but loved that it saved so much time. She worked then for the British-American Chamber of Commerce, which made it effortless to hop aboard the concorde.
1:42 am
tbear
Apparentely from the cockpit you could see the curvature of the earth...how cool...ah yes tea and toast....5
1:42 am
Dianne
Well I figured it was as close as I would ever come to being an astronaut so why not. If the captain hadn't told us what to expect when we broke the sound barrier I don't think I would have noticed.
1:49 am
mab
I think I would be quite scared, not knowing what it was like -- the sounds, sensations. I would definitely do it however.
1:52 am
tbear
well u have no chance now mabellina...another of my s-i-ls nicknames....one handed typing cos tea in other hand...mmmm
1:55 am
mab
Well, no, and besides, I am poor now. I do believe, however, there is some plan to tinker with it and eventually fly it again some day, isn't that so?
1:56 am
mab
I have zero words above six letters. This puzzle needs at least one more e. I shouldn't have started.
1:58 am
tbear
I hadn't heard that.....but wow if it happens.I'd get my old uniform out and go back as a wrinkly...ooo no,I'd be a crinkly by then...and i'd have to wear flat shoes, after babies I'm allergic to heels and not too happy bout a face full of make-up either....infact forget it my daughters can try it for a laugh
1:59 am
tbear
Move over mother (darling) let the young 'uns in
1:59 am
sprite
Sizable one! Morning all :)
2:01 am
mab
You are still young. Anyone younger than I is young. This will probably remain true in the unlikely circumstance that I live to be 90. This is why you should always have at least one friend older than you are.
2:02 am
mab
It's big. Hi Sprite! I've only just now found a seven letter word, although I've not been too focussed.
2:03 am
sprite
The site is giving me problems. Takes about 10 secs for every new word to be processed :(
2:05 am
tbear
Sprite and a happy dutch xmas to you... Mab you're as young as you feel..my grandmother died last year at a permenant 16 (read 89) and mostly I am still a teenager (read 44 and 363 days) :)
2:05 am
sprite
Oh my... people who manage to get wild beasts behave again... and they don't take?? Don't think I am gonna like this grid.
2:06 am
sprite
Thanx tbear. Xmas is over here, we had a good time with the family. Very cozy :)
How was yours?
2:06 am
mab
Babble is entirely too fickle with its re's.
2:07 am
sprite
It would have been a Re8, so that hurts ;)
2:08 am
tbear
Sprite in Spain, with family and 9 pm on xmas eve got a 24 hr stomach bug after ONE glass of wine....much time spent in the smallest room of the house, but apart from that excellent....
2:10 am
sprite
Ah tbear, I am so sorry! That's a bad way to spend any day, and especially one you want to celebrate with your family. ((((tbear))))
2:11 am
tbear
Xmas may be technically over but I'm putting my tree up today I always have had a tree on my birthday and this year will be no exception.....big bl....y kid that i am.
2:12 am
sprite
It is your birthday?
Congratulations! Enjoy your day and make up for Xmas past ;)
2:13 am
tbear
Ta for hug...will accept it now I'm not infectious... Wasn't too bad,I'm a trooper...even managed one very weak g&t at 6 on xmas day...kill or cure...it was fine, but with no food inside it went straight to my head...yay
2:14 am
tbear
Sprite, thx birthday on Frid, celebrating with soiree 2moro nite(Anj and lola coming too) but tree up today!!
2:14 am
sprite
No babbler is a quitter ;)
That's the spirit. Hope you feel well again now?
2:16 am
tbear
OOoo has everyone got the to6...love apple one?
2:16 am
mab
One of your special candlelit dinners, Hyacinth?
2:17 am
sprite
You say To6, I say To6.
2:19 am
sprite
This is ugly. 65 words and only 2 7s. None of the bigger ones. I am having a particularly blonde day or this is a nasty grid. Or both.
2:21 am
tbear
Candlelit Tapas, spanish omelette, olives, salted almonds, white anchovies, serrano ham, manchego cheese, chorizo, russian potato salad (spanish name for it??) and gorgeous bread of course and washed down with gallons of great Rioja and Torres red, secret bottle of ChatneufduPape for me in the kitchen...surrupticious top-ups..(how mean) ooo and Bouquets (as in Hyacinth) Mab
2:22 am
mab
Iceboy zipped through here with an I 10. I see an I 6.
2:22 am
tbear
Pls don't tell Anj and Lola bout the stashed Chateauneuf du Pape.......pls pls
2:23 am
sprite
Thank you! That gave me the i10 right away :)
2:24 am
mab
It isn't based on the in6, is it, Sprite?
Ooo, sounds lovely!
2:26 am
sprite
Yes, it is, actually. Want a def? Or something?
2:27 am
sprite
i10/91: Any of a group of glycoproteins that are produced by different cell types in response to various stimuli, such as exposure to a virus, bacterium, parasite, or other antigen, and that prevent viral replication in newly infected cells and, in some cases, modulate specific cellular functions.
2:28 am
sprite
It sounds like a hormone to me :)
2:28 am
tbear
sprite don't do defs....give clue to last 4 letters pls
2:29 am
mab
Oh for heaven's sake; one would have to be either a pathologist or you, Sprite, to make that out! Thank you very kindly.
2:29 am
sprite
Ends like the love god, only change last letter.
2:31 am
mab
Don't hate me because I googled. That's a wholly recognizable word, actually.
2:32 am
tbear
Thx sprite...gotta go now..lack of sleep over 3 days finally caught up with me..eyes swimming..brain fudgy..love and hugs speak later or 2moro..xxxxx
2:33 am
sprite
Sorry I gave the def before you posted you wouldn't want one, tbear... and why on earth would I hate you, mab? If I hit a wall, I google. I even use A2Z if all else fails. When I started here, I was told looking op the actual words was considered cheating, all the rest was research ;)
2:33 am
mab
Good night dear tbear....
2:33 am
tbear
Mabs....great chat..speak later xx
2:33 am
sprite
Sweet dreams, tbear.
2:34 am
tbear
Thanks guys...not against defs etc, just too lazy to look up...lol...hugs all round
2:35 am
sprite
*hug for tbear*
2:35 am
mab
It is a bit cheap, but if the word is obscure, as I thought this one was going to be, I have no qualms really about googling. a2z I use extremely rarely, simply because I hate the process of using it.
2:36 am
speedfreak sam
HI EVERYONE!
2:37 am
mab
Well, good morning Sam!
2:37 am
sprite
A2Z is nice for those last nasty words, when your brain feels like it will never come up with another possibility ever. Usually the clues and hints in the chatlog suffice, and of course the stats panel helps.
2:37 am
sprite
Hi Sam! And tdf!
2:38 am
sprite
Make that ktf.
2:38 am
speedfreak sam
hi mab!
does anyone have a clue for the ten (It's always nice to get the biggies first.)
2:38 am
speedfreak sam
hi sprite!
2:39 am
sprite
Scroll down a little, sam, one has been giving a few minutes ago.
2:39 am
ktf
No worries, Sprite. *grin*
2:39 am
mab
If you scroll down a bit, Sam, Sprite gave us the definition.
2:40 am
sprite
No wonder I get so many oopses - if I type that badly ;)
2:40 am
mab
I'm sorry, hello ktf!
2:41 am
ktf
Hello, Mab. How's tricks?
2:42 am
mab
Tricks are fine, thank you, ktf. And for you?
2:43 am
ktf
Oh yeah, not bad. I, erm, googled the 10. I'm too lazy for this game. Also, crap at it. Forgive me?
2:43 am
sprite
Note to self: 'remote' is NOT in this grid. Not if you try it once and not if you try it one billion times. So quit!
2:44 am
mab
Now, just 20 more 'long' words to go. Yoink found a G7, and I believe there were some long O's.
2:45 am
sprite
You play, you have fun, then you are great at this game, ktf.
2:46 am
ktf
Thanks Sprite. *grin* I try...
2:46 am
speedfreak sam
thanks sprite I got the ten without help from my dad!
2:47 am
sprite
I have F7x2, G7, i7, L7. I'll see what I can dig up in the O-area, thanks.
2:47 am
mab
Fabulous Sam! And ktf!
2:47 am
sprite
Wow Sam, great going! Say hi to your dad from me too ;)
2:49 am
speedfreak sam
thanks everyone can I have a clue for the F7s please.
2:49 am
ktf
Erm... Lots of trees.
2:50 am
sprite
F7/40 woods
F7/44 compound, such as a salt or an ester of formic acid, that contains the HCOO- radical
2:52 am
mab
There is also F7: one who makes one kind of decorative item used with pictures.
G7: people who put on airs when they do something they think is wonderful.
2:53 am
sprite
Nice, mab! Thanks for the 3rd F7.
2:54 am
ktf
Got the G7. Thanks, Mab!
2:55 am
sprite
LOL! 'You have 150 words left to find'
Does that mean I'd better have some breakfast before I continue the hunt?
2:56 am
mab
sounds sensible.
2:57 am
speedfreak sam
thanks everyone! the only one I can't get is the G7.
2:57 am
ktf
Delighting over other's misfortune, Sam
2:58 am
mab
It's a GL, Sam. The root word rhymes with what one might do in a pool; not swim, but *****
2:58 am
mtnjock
hey sam, if I lord something over you, I am g5 ing, this is the who I am (the one doing it).
2:58 am
sprite
*armed with breakfast going back to hunt*
No, I am not addicted. What gave you that impression?
2:59 am
ktf
*straight face* Oh, nothing
2:59 am
mab
And it's not schadenfreude.
3:00 am
ktf
*peers* Are you sure?
3:00 am
mari
Morning all - how many words today please
3:00 am
speedfreak sam
236 words today
3:01 am
mtnjock
yes it is MAB... LOL
3:01 am
sprite
LOL
Perfectly sure.
mab, in Dutch it is 'leedvermaak'. :)
Hi mtn!
3:01 am
Frances
'morning Steve
3:01 am
mtnjock
morning sprite, mab, sam... everyone
3:01 am
mtnjock
morning Frances
3:02 am
ktf
Morning! *passes around steaming cups of tea*
3:03 am
speedfreak sam
thankyou everyone!
3:03 am
Frances
*tea gratefully received* slurp slurp
3:05 am
Frances
do we have dislexics on? Is it 236 or 263??????
3:05 am
sprite
Mab, found the big Os. Singl. and plural, O8/55 - 9/72. Chemical words.
3:05 am
ktf
Damned science. I be an Arts student, cannae you tell?
3:05 am
Frances
Thanks sprite
3:06 am
mab
Thanks Sprite. Oh boy, chemical words.
3:06 am
sprite
I'd love to give the def, but the ending of the word is in the def. I'll think of a hint.
3:08 am
mab
No worries, I'll ferret them out. It's very helpful knowing if one is looking for normal or technical. That's how I divide up the world!
3:08 am
sprite
Okay, here we go.
First part: slippery, combustible, viscous, liquid or liquefiable substance. Nice to rub your loved one with. Then switch last two letters.
Second part: order to leave.
Last part: french for sea.
3:09 am
Frances
Nice one sprite ....got it straight away from that
3:10 am
dalmatian5
Sprite - you give the best clues! Thanks!
3:10 am
sprite
Don't forget the plural ;)
(I often do)
3:10 am
ktf
I'm stuck, argh. Never mind.
3:12 am
mtnjock
stats not posted yet by brandy?
3:12 am
sprite
Just keep faith, ktf :)
Go get yourself a nice cup of tea, come back and before you know it, you'll find a word that will lead you to a number of others.
3:12 am
mab
Haven't looked, mtn.
3:13 am
sprite
Don't know, mtn.
3:14 am
speedfreak sam
thanks sprite!
off to have breakfast.
3:15 am
sprite
Enjoy, Sam :)
3:18 am
sprite
mab, there are even more F7s.
Also found F44: prolongated item in music; F44: leader or work crew; F44: sounds like someone who puts things together, but the def is: Any of several frequency regions of relatively great intensity in a sound spectrum, which together determine the characteristic quality of a vowel sound
3:20 am
mab
These are great, Sprite. Such a relief to get them out of the way.
3:20 am
speedfreak sam
back!
3:20 am
sprite
And another GL7, plural to small body surrounded by many nerve fibers, consisting of an anastomosis between fine arterioles and veins. I think we have seen it before in a grid, cause I knew the word, but had to look op its def.
3:21 am
sprite
I agree, mab! 3 more 7s and 5 (!) more 8s, and then I'll know I just have to look for manageable words.
3:23 am
sprite
Owwww, that is almost magic! Just found 2 when I posted last one. i7/40 - 8/55 hell(s)
3:23 am
mrpresident
ah, another grid... looks... challenging!
3:24 am
sprite
Ha mrP! It is, at least I think so. Not an easy one, although big.
3:25 am
mrpresident
fell asleep for the last grid and missed out on finishing by 22 words! Not Happy!!
3:25 am
sprite
:(
Did you dream up some of the missing words?
3:28 am
mrpresident
it was one of those really weirdo dreams... everything seemed real....!! I was married to Harrison Ford, living on a goat farm, and babble was on my fridge monitor... I was trying to download my shopping list but all I was getting was "ma5/12... oops that wasn't a valid word!"
Go figure!
3:29 am
sprite
S8/45: The gritty coarse particles of wheat left after the finer flour has passed through a bolting machine, used for pasta. (My new word for today, found when looking for broll's 8/50. Didn't find that one yet.)
3:29 am
sprite
LMAO! What a wonderful dream.
3:31 am
mrpresident
mab, speed, sprite, et al... how is your day/night going?
3:32 am
sprite
Now that I am down to 32, the day is starting to look better ;)
This afternoon we will take the kids to a workshop where they can make their own mosaik-animal. Looks like fun too!
3:33 am
mab
Good morning mrpres. My morning is a continuation of last night, so, great, I think.
3:33 am
Haz1558
sprite - the se 8 word was the first one to leap out at me from the grid. It brought back unhappy memories of school dinners!
3:33 am
mtnjock
I got the sa7 from your clue, I think thats what you were hinting at...
3:34 am
mab
Oh that sounds fun! Mosaic is fun.
I don't know how you got down to so few words so quickly.
3:34 am
sprite
mtn: no, I don't have an Sa8. Thanks for the hint :)
3:35 am
mrpresident
sprite... you are freaky fast!
3:36 am
sprite
It was tough going at the beginning, mrP, I am glad I am on a roll now. It's a funny grid. Not easy.

Another couple of biggies: i7/32 - 8/45: any of a class of plastics that because of its *beep* bonding action is capable of conducting electric current. Plus plural.
Beeped away the word that is giving away too much.
3:39 am
mtnjock
sa7 - no definition on record, 2 part clue, first part 4 letters, type of hindu clothing, change the last vowel, the other is a type of cooling device that is hand held.
3:44 am
sprite
Can't find it yet. Do you have the points count, please? That would help :)
3:44 am
Haz1558
mtnjock - I can't get your clue to work for the sa7. When you say change the last vowel in the hindu clothing, is it to another vowel?
3:45 am
sprite
Haz, I only just saw your earlier post. Isn't it great you finally managed to get something good out of that horrible memory? ;)
3:46 am
Haz1558
Yes, Sprite, I appreciated the points more than the pudding!
3:48 am
mtnjock
yes, not an i, but another vowel. rhymes with the pa7 thats a wax.
3:48 am
sprite
mtn, I am at a loss. I just looked up my stats panel and I see I have all the biggies now... but no Sa7. Does your Sa7 have a points count? If not, try refresh. It might disappear :(
3:50 am
speedfreak sam
I cant get the S7!
3:50 am
Frances
totally stuck on this one. I don't show a p!!! pa7??
3:50 am
sprite
mtn is pulling our leg! LOL - baaaaaad boy!
3:54 am
sprite
I have: Se7 : 1. membranes, especially those that line the pericardial, pleural, and peritoneal cavities, enclosing their contents.
2. The chorion of a bird or reptile embryo. (pl)
Also St7: minute epidermal pore in a leaf or stem through which gases and water vapor can pass
3:59 am
mab
Thank you Sprite! This has been quite a clue fest; some of these I would not have found. Most.
4:00 am
speedfreak sam
thanks sprite I hyave written them on paper so my dad can help with them (I can't get them)
4:01 am
speedfreak sam
sorry have.
4:01 am
sprite
I think a lot of them have come up in grids before. Either that or I came across them in another kind of puzzle. You know, some vague feeling that there is a word with that letters... and no clue of the meaning! ;)
4:02 am
Haz1558
Well, It's reassuring to know that you're not carrying ALL that knowledge round in your head.
4:02 am
sprite
Sam: for that St7, think the special word for wounds that assemble the wounds of Christ. Some people who believe very strongly get them too, it seems. Then change the last letter.
4:02 am
rosalind230
morning all how many words today please
4:03 am
mab
I just heard on the radio that I am the same age as actor Denzel Washington. Somehow that makes me smile. I have no idea. Happy Birthday Denzel Day!
4:03 am
Dianne
Haz - can you give us a clue for the Se7. I've been searching and searching but not luck.
4:03 am
speedfreak sam
can I have some help with the 8s thye only one I have is the Ol/72
4:03 am
Haz1558
263 words today
4:03 am
Dianne
Just found one Se7 - is there another?
4:03 am
mrpresident
way too many!!! 263
4:03 am
speedfreak sam
263 words
4:04 am
sprite
Not by far, Haz. I have that associative kind of mind. If something rings a bell, I go try and see what might be there in the clutter in my brain. :) I usually look up the defs, so I might learn something in the process.
4:04 am
mab
Sprite, Sam is Jewish. His dad will know what you mean, but this isn't something Jewish kids would likely know.
4:04 am
mtnjock
there is an se 6 and se 8 and sa7
4:04 am
sprite
Dianne: no, one Se7. I have 2 Se8's though. Not related.
4:05 am
speedfreak sam
I don't get it.
4:05 am
Haz1558
se 8/45 - a type of milk pudding. First part of the word is a bit like 'half' but with another vowel, the second part of the word is like a woman's name.
4:06 am
sprite
Ah, I am sorry, Sam. And I am wrong too, I realise now. That word is different. Sooooooo sorry! The one I mean is what you get when you have problems with certain bodily functions and they put a hole in you to facilitate things. Sorry again. Painful confusion :)
4:07 am
speedfreak sam
thanks sprite!
4:07 am
sprite
mtnjock, could you please give the points total of that Sa7? I really cannot find it.
4:08 am
mab
They are similar Sprite. Your clue made me smile.
4:08 am
sprite
Goes to proof how that mind of mine works, right? LOL
Very much working on association. Too much.
4:09 am
mab
Well that is the way our minds work -- I love that. This puzzle is simply amazing for its number of difficult words.
4:10 am
Haz1558
Sam, have you got the st7? It works off st 5/12 which forms the first letters of part of the body that food goes into first.
4:11 am
speedfreak sam
yep!
thanks to sprite (and google)
4:12 am
Haz1558
That's good!
4:16 am
Dianne
Haz - just got that Se8 - thanks for the help.
Did they serve that at your school dinners.
Sprite - any clue on the 2nd Se8?
4:18 am
sprite
Se6/21: lecture.
Se8/50: having that lecturelike quality
4:20 am
Haz1558
It's most often associated with church (se6)
4:22 am
Dianne
Sprite and Haz - I had the Se6 but now (thanks to you both) I have the Se8. I had no idea that was a word.
4:22 am
Haz1558
No, Dianne, neither had I!
4:23 am
speedfreak sam
with 40 words 5.33 and 772 points I'm leaving.
bye everyone!
4:23 am
Haz1558
At least there's some hope of using it in conversation.
4:24 am
mrpresident
bye speed.... have a good one!
4:24 am
Haz1558
Bye, Sam- have a good day!
4:24 am
sprite
Once I see an ending like that, I just try it after any word I find in that area, lol. Between my own limited knowledge of english and the peculiarities of the enable dictionary, that seems the best way to go about it.
4:24 am
Dianne
Sprite - would a person be described as being Se8 or
would it describe a setting/situation?
4:26 am
mab
That ol word is completely foreign to me -- NEVER would have guessed it.
4:27 am
sprite
Dianne: I don't think one would use it for a person. Rather for describing a speech or something like that. But that's just on feel.
4:28 am
Haz1558
Dianne, I think you would apply se8 to a person's way of speaking rather than to them personally.
4:28 am
Dianne
mab - how could anyone guess a word like that. It's even hard to give a clue for - Unless you think of Fran and Ol***
4:29 am
Dianne
So you mean that when someone is a bit preachy in the logs then they are being S38 - right?
4:31 am
Haz1558
Yes, - you could say that someone's conversation was se8 in tone.
4:31 am
sprite
Right, I think. :)
The Ol-word isn't too uncommon in science related lit. The Poly- variant sounds familiar, I think. And I somehow have this association with the latin or greek word for 'little of something' or 'less of something'. Could be completely off target, though.
4:32 am
Haz1558
You haven't anyone in mind, DIanne, have you?
4:32 am
sprite
Should I go and hide?
4:33 am
Dianne
No one in mind - just storing away for an opportunity to let someone know that sound Se8 (I wouldn't even use the word - just the Se8 for it) :)
4:33 am
Haz1558
NO! Sprite, you're a real as5/10 to us all!!!
4:34 am
sprite
I am one of a family of teachers, so I am told sometimes my tone tends to be Se8 ;)
4:35 am
Haz1558
No, I think you're just a mine of information and it's great that you're willing to share it with the rest of us.
4:37 am
sprite
The sharing is what makes this game so wonderful. And it goes both ways :)
Just tell me if I sound too much missknowitall-ic - never mean to sound like that!
4:37 am
mab
Never.
the first four letters of the ol word are certainly recognizable, and the second part of the word somewhat less for me. Putting the two together probably wouldn't occur to me.
4:38 am
Dianne
Sprite - I think that you help us to learn while we are finding the words (which you also help us do).
4:39 am
sprite
I really enjoy that aspect of it. First I get to be a real kid, just playing around with letters until some combination all of a sudden becomes a word - and then I grow up a little and find out what it means. Makes every grid a new adventure :D
4:39 am
Haz1558
I think everyone has different ways of sharing information. You tend to go for hard information regarding definitions of words, whereas I would tend to split up the word and walk people through each bit. I think we all need the different elements. So, keep giving out those definitions!
4:40 am
sprite
I like your walk-through clues, Haz! They really help.
4:40 am
mab
I frequently learn something new about playing this game when you are here, Sprite. New was of looking, insight into your process; very helpful. And then that crosses over into other thought processes somehow.
4:42 am
Dianne
mab - the second part of that word should be familiar -
Private Pile?
4:42 am
sprite
That's so wonderfully put, mab. That is exactly why I find this game so truly worthwile. It isn't just the playing itself, though that is fun. But what you said. I usually carry something with me from the game that enriches other areas of my life :) I learn from you all.
4:43 am
mab
Interesting Haz, Sprite. I think the way that this game helps me to grow is in the various ways of thinking... I don't know quite how to put it into words, but I love this somewhat indefinable aspect.
4:44 am
sprite
Okay, mtnjock, come over here and tell us you're sorry!
I covered all the S's now and the only SA's are a 5 and a 4. Admit you have been pulling our leg, with that Sa7 and that P7!
4:45 am
Haz1558
Well, I started this session with se8/45 and I've finished with to6/21. I'll be back later to see what other food is lurking! Good to chat and see you later. Mtnjock's word isn't sausage, anyway.....
4:46 am
mab
Yes. The second half of the word if you start with the seventh letter of the alphabet is the name of a rural character in an old sitcom here.
4:47 am
mab
the ol word.
Later Haz.
4:47 am
sprite
Bye Haz, it was nice playing and chatting with you, as ever :)
I need to finish soon, will leave in about 20 minutes for that workshop. Will go hunt for those last elusive ones.
4:48 am
mab
Maybe it is a word that mtn knows well, but isn't accepted by Babble.
4:49 am
mab
Thanks so much Sprite. Must sleep now or I will do what mrpresident did and sleep too late to finish.
Have fun with your mosaics.
4:49 am
sprite
Could be. Or he might have entered it while there was some refresh problem, and the word might have found its way into the list. Without points, then. Well, if it was a joke, it was a good one. I really looked and looked. And I checked the grid carefully before coming to the conclusion there really wasn't a P. :)
4:50 am
sprite
Sleep well, mab, and thanks for your great company :)
5:11 am
Dianne
Is there really an Er7?
5:13 am
roncook
hi all no stats today any idea what the 8/9/&10 words start as.
5:16 am

5:16 am

5:20 am

5:28 am
trishtrash
Thanks Haz... I have an am 5/14 relating to the membrane we've been seeing a lot in the grid lately.

5:36 am
Haz1558
And even am5/20
5:36 am
Dianne
I'm alway running am4/9 - but more so today.
5:38 am
trishtrash
The am4/9 is a plural? *is bemused*
5:39 am
Haz1558
I know - have never heard it pluralised, but the grid accepts it!
an4/4 - water buffalo
an5/10 - more of above
5:43 am
trishtrash
thanks Haz, got them, awful sneaky for such big animals....
5:46 am
Haz1558
It's one of those words where I remember the letters but never the definition!
5:48 am
trishtrash
lol, I will have forgotten the vowel progression by the time we see them again.
6:08 am
Haz1558
Just discovered in7/40 and in8/55. Who'll call the fire brigade?

Brandyjack -- have you any idea how pleased we are to see you?! Did you have a good holiday season?
9:44 am

So this is a great day with a bigger puzzle even with the 7 letter words :)
9:46 am
brandyjack
Yesterday's was way too small. I got bored and fell asleep before the puzzle reset. 400 channels of tv and nothing to watch. And I read about 350 pages of my books....
9:47 am
brandyjack
All the huzzah's in the last few minutes since the posting have indeed apprised me of everyone's appreciation. And I know how I get without the 2nd letter list......
9:51 am
Munner
My Babble goal each day is to get half the words before I look at Brandyjack's list, then to use it to figure out the rest. A really good day is not having to go to a2zwordfinder. Thanks Brandyjack!
9:53 am
sherb
afternoon all :)
BJ - can I add another huzzah... I like to do as much as I can without help, but I really appreciate your list for the longer puzzles, and when I've got less time... thank you :)
9:53 am
brandyjack
I have almost stopped using wordfinder. I won't use it to complete a puzzle, but I will use it when trying to find a word that is absolutely driving me nuts. Usually a 6 letter word follwing a 4 letter word that I just CANT see in front of my nose. But I have to have the second letter list. Just knowing there is a word is enough to find it sometimes....
10:01 am
renfield
add me to the list brandy - i think you are wonderful!!! - let's go to costa rica and surf!!!
10:03 am
brandyjack
I'm freezing my butt off, Costa Rica sounds great to me... As for surfing, broken bones do not entice me. Teasing the sharks sounds great though.....

Good Morning
12:10 pm

12:14 pm
Jessie1
I am back at work as you can see... I take it smaller is probably cleaning her oven and watering the plants...
12:15 pm
Schroeder
Sherb, is this the Jessie from yesterday?
12:15 pm
Jessie1
You mean there is another Jessie? There is only one Jessie1
12:15 pm
sherb
so Jessie, if you're not smaller's boss, how do you know her?
12:16 pm
granadan
this little one is just ten months. Ive got a couple of oldies tho (10+11) - no gray on anyone yet though.
12:16 pm
Jessie1
This was just before I got deported from Montana
12:17 pm
goofball
Montana kicked you out?
12:18 pm
sherb
Schro - yes, this is Jessie from yesterday... part way through our chat, KristinaRose appeared and said that he was HER boss, and she's in California!...
12:21 pm
Plebian
Hi,
May I put in my 2 cents worth concerning the se8? I've never heard cream of wheat called that name, nor would I consider it a type of milk pudding. Being both a midwesterner and a southwesterner for lo, MANY years, I've only known the se8 to be a type of flour I buy in the health food store to make pasta and pasta like products. Wonder if that might help those who are still scratching their heads?
12:21 pm
Jessie1
No, I met smaller a few weeks ago here on babble. I just like to play a lot...
12:22 pm
rosalind230
se8 is a pudding made with milk
12:23 pm
smaller
no, Jessie
you like to pick on people a lot. babble bully I'd say.
12:23 pm
sherb
ok, but are you really KristinaRose's boss? (...is there another meaning to 'boss'?)
12:23 pm
Jessie1
No smaller, I don't like to pick on people a lot, just you...:-}
12:25 pm
Plebian
Aha! I see there are two se8's. That seems to explain a thing or two! LOL Sorry -- Will have to keep looking.
12:25 pm
smaller
pthhhhhhhbt!
shoot, now I have spit on my monitor thingy
12:25 pm
Jessie1
Boss has many definitions and I am everybody's boss.
12:25 pm
sherb
Plebian - it's both, honestly. I use se**** to make pasta, and you can also buy it in the shops here as a tinned milk pudding... don't know who eats the stuff, exactly, cos I've never met anyone who didn't claim to hate it...
12:26 pm
doxy1lover
sherb, personally, I think any pudding made with se8 would not taste very good.
12:26 pm
sherb
smaller - do you have a persecution complex? ...or are people just out to get you? :D :D :D
12:26 pm
renfield
hey hey - i see the big boss man is here again!!!
12:26 pm
smaller
Jessie,

Se****** pudding is lovely! I'm a teacher and we have it at school. Just like rice pudding, a dollop of jam just sets if off. It's probably an English thing.
12:29 pm
doxy1lover

12:30 pm
smaller

12:30 pm

12:31 pm
Maureen
doxy1lover, yes I guess so. We give babies rice and se****** pudding when we wean them too.
12:31 pm

12:32 pm
smaller

Hi all!
Haz - can have another clue for the in10? My chemistry degree is currently glaring at me that I can't find it despite your fine glycoprotein clue.
3:25 pm
davetins
smaller 1st 5 letters mean between
3:26 pm
davetins
cyber the def would give it, work down to the bottom left corner
3:27 pm
Haz1558
If you take the word in5/10 that means to bury, or Latin between, add fe4/7 - frondlike leaved plant with o before the last letter, you should have it.
3:29 pm
Babs1
am + shortened version of St. N....who comes at Christmas
3:29 pm
cybernan
Thankyou davetins......
do you have a clue for the am7 as well?
3:30 pm

3:44 pm
cybernan
in 10: first half is a prefix meaning between -- it is a drug used to treat HIV
3:45 pm
smaller
cybernan and davetins,
thanks! i should have learned in the past to put an "a" in front of other words. that's why there are always so many a's
3:46 pm
cybernan
we all do it, smaller.......I kept missing the suffix that means like all day.
3:48 pm
cybernan
in 10: between + iron prefix + off's opposite
3:49 pm
Jessie1
Thanks for the spelling lesson; I'll keep in mind the ZZ. I knew I misspelled it but I didn't care. Bears don't usually care if it's the French pronunciation or the Italian.

Sherry -- When does the weather start to warm up in Normandy? We're planning on starting out in Amsterdam, then Brussels, then LeHavre where we will rent a car and tour Normandy and Brittany (only part of France we haven't seen) and are currently trying to figure out the best time frame weatherwise.
3:55 pm
Jessie1
No, the crusties were KristinaRose's
3:56 pm
smaller
no, she's a lady and politely eats them
only boys are messy
3:57 pm
Jessie1
Why not eat them, the have protein, carbs and digest easily.
3:59 pm
Sherry
Cybernan: Normandy is never warm! I went on holiday there a couple of summers ago and it was impossible to wear anything sleeveless. But I'll fish for information about that. Hang around!

4:06 pm
cybernan
Merci! Sherry.......
As I recall it was cold everywhere 2 years ago. We spent May in Tuscany, the Cote d'Azure and Provence -- needed jackets the whole time. When we arrived in the UK in June we enjoyed the only 3 weeks without rain they had all summer.
4:06 pm
Jessie1
Have you noticed that whenever we can't make out what something tastes like, we always associate it with Chicken?
4:07 pm
Sherry
De rien Cybernan! :)
4:07 pm
Jessie1
BTW, do you have long nails or the short nail-biting?
4:12 pm

I can't stand Tom Cruise, I find him scary, in fact call him 'Creepy Cruise'. Odd thing was, I didn't know my Mum felt the same until she said it (the exact words I've said) a couple of days ago. My other half now thinks this anti-Cruise thing must be genetic. LOL.
I can enjoy his fillms, but , well...
8:50 pm
Jacula
at6/21 - you might ask for this with a gin.
8:51 pm
movieman
Jacula, does your dislike of Mr. Cruise have anything to do with the fact that he's a Scientologist?
8:53 pm
Jacula
ar5/12 and its plural 6/21 are a knight's light helmet. Think Somerset word 'ar' and then add what you might have done had you got together with others. You would have m** them. If you're in UK, then just think of another word for the police. The M**.
8:57 pm
Jacula
Movieman - actually, it does. But not because of that fact so much as the avidness with which he seems to pursue it. It seems like a kind of autisic thing to do, to me. But, before I knew about the Scientology, I saw a film (not Breathless, I think) in which he played a real creep with his then lover, the readhead. Scared the shit out of me because I knew he meant it!
8:58 pm
Jacula
Oops! I just got beeped on BABBLE for typing ess aitch eye tee.
8:58 pm
movieman
Ah, well, I suppose I have to go now.....
It's nearly 3:00am and I should really have been in bed at least 3 hours ago, but this Babbling lark can really take a while......
So I'll sign off now.....
Byyyyeeeeeee!!!!!!!!
9:01 pm
Jacula
Come back soon, Movieman, and remind me which film with Creepy Cruise and Nicole Kidman I wads trying to recall! In the meantime, sleep well.x
9:01 pm

9:05 pm
Jacula
sa5/10 is an anagram of 'soars'.
9:08 pm
Jacula

9:08 pm
renfield

9:09 pm
Dianne
Jac - that's the one I have. What about the 2nd Mo4?
9:11 pm
Jacula
2nd mo4/5 - a speck of dust poetically. Failing that, the end of a witch's spelll, 'so mo** it be!'
9:12 pm
Jacula
Sounds like the body of water around a castle but is spelled differently.
9:14 pm
Dianne
Jac - I have that word for the 3rd Mo 4/5.
9:17 pm
Jacula
I don't have all the 'mo's' myself yet.
9:23 pm
Cathy

Eyes wide shut was not only creepy... but grossly stupid....

9:25 pm
movieman
I have returned, jacula, and have just checked out Mr. Cruise's filmography on the imdb, and by my reckoning he and Ms. Kidman (is she the redhead you were referring to?) starred together in only 3 films, "Day's of Thunder", "Far and Away" & "Eyes Wide Shut".....
Were any of these the film you were looking for?
9:26 pm
Jacula
Cathy - THANK YOU! That was the one. Been trying to think of it all holiday weekend.
9:26 pm
Dianne
Any clues out there for Fa5/16?
9:26 pm
LeslieAnn
hmm, blaze i agree with you there as well
9:27 pm
Cathy
You're welcome ... I thought that might be it. :)
9:28 pm

9:29 pm
movieman
Mind you, "Eyes Wide Shut" was okay if you like the sight of a nude Ms. Kidman (like me) lol....
9:30 pm
Babs1
fa 5/16 what you might turn on to cool yourself + signal for help minus the first consonant
9:31 pm
Jacula
fa5/16 - pl. of of fa 4. A kind of extended air-mover or devotee of a group or singer, etc. It has a surprised kind of ending - a round vowel.
9:32 pm
Dianne
Babs & Jac - now I know it's time to quit - I have that I meant Fr5/16. My eyes are shot and my typing stinks :)
9:32 pm
Jacula
Movieman - now you just sound like my other half, or a typical man, re Ms. Kidman. I was talking about thwe psychological side of things!
9:33 pm
Babs1
Well then Dianne, maybe it's time to sit awhile and play the guitar with those fr's on it...
9:33 pm
movieman
Alright, so the orgy scene was a bit creepy.....
9:33 pm
Dianne
Jac - I got the Mo4 I was looking for - to lose one's outer covering.
9:33 pm
LeslieAnn
that's ok dianne i needed it! the fr is fr + a naughty word
9:34 pm
Jacula
Dianne - why not play us one of my acoustic favourites? Fleetwood Mac's Oh Well Part II?
9:35 pm
Dianne
Babs and Leslie - didn't even know that was a word - thanks for thehelp.
9:36 pm
Jacula
LOL, Movieman. Orgies are only okay if everyone in them wants to be in them.
9:37 pm
Jacula
*settling back now to listen to Dianne playing guitar.*
9:37 pm
Dianne
Finished - phew. Anyone need anything before I go and get some work done?

Dianne
Leslie - sorry I didn't clue you - I was away from the computer for a couple of minutes (and I just had a good clue to give you....)
9:43 pm
Jacula
IN10/91 - Any of a group of glycoproteins that are produced by different cell types in response to various stimuli, such as exposure to a virus, bacterium, parasite, or other antigen, and that prevent viral replication in newly infected cells and, in some cases, modulate specific cellular functions.
9:44 pm
LeslieAnn
give it for good measure! i was trying to think of something like, when 2 grapes love each other very much...
9:45 pm
Dianne
Leslie - I like your better.
9:46 pm
Jacula
Dianne - could you please stop nattering and play Oh Well Pt II, pretty please?

9:47 pm
Blaze

9:50 pm
Nonny

9:50 pm
Jacula
Duracell, I meant.
9:51 pm
DarleenMB

9:51 pm
Jacula

9:52 pm
Dianne
Se50 - very preachy.
9:54 pm
Nonny
Never made pasta..... Have no idea where this is going, SORRY!
9:55 pm
Blaze
thank you for the se's
Jac..., how do I email you on Babanon ??
9:56 pm
Blaze
I still have 137 words to go.... ROFLOL
9:57 pm
brandyjack
thanks for the In10 LeslieAnn
9:57 pm
Jacula
Thanks for the very preachy clue, Di. Got that now.
Nonny - I'm a great pasta cook but haven't got that clue either, so, don't worry!
9:58 pm
Dianne
Nonny - first half of the word is like a big trailer truck but change the last vowel - second half is what actors have to learn but change the last vowel.
9:58 pm
Jacula
Blaze - you click on me and then 'reply', I think.
9:58 pm
brandyjack
Pasta flour, you know, durum se******
10:01 pm
Jacula
Hiya BJ - just realised you finally rolled in again.

10:01 pm
brandyjack
Um, Jacs, Xmas was 3 days ago......
10:02 pm
LeslieAnn
and to clarify, because this has caused confusion before, that jac is drunk, not mad. :)
10:02 pm
Jacula
BJ - (hic)m- It lasts a week here in UK now. We g on (hic) until 1st Jan. (hic!!)
10:03 pm

10:07 pm
Jacula
36 words to find here, btw.
10:08 pm
brandyjack
I still have 166 to find....
Was surprised more people didn't post pics....
10:09 pm
Jacula
J - I think more people didn't post pics because you can't do it from your own computer on there. I keep meaning to get photobucket to do it, but haven't, yet. I guess others are the same.
10:10 pm
brandyjack
I learned about photobucket from my daughter 5 mins before I posted those..... too easy......
10:12 pm
Jacula
BJ - re your sis-in-law's pics - this is a question me and my other half want to know... the trays of things on the snow (well, that's what they look like) on your sis-in-law's pics - what ARE they?
10:14 pm
Jacula
BJ - re photobucket - I don't believe you really jumped right in like that, given your pc awareness??
10:15 pm
Nonny
Any help w/ so 5/16????
10:16 pm
brandyjack
The caption says it all. Buckeye's. Peanut butter center with chocolate coating, look like a big chestnut. 1000 times the calories of a chestnut though.....
10:18 pm
LeslieAnn
nonny, a compound word... i don't want to go to work, it is so*** away (or add a letter to your so 4/7)
10:19 pm
Jacula
Sorry,BJ. Here in UK we needed a translation or buckeyes. We understand now.
10:20 pm
brandyjack
As for photobucket, the Web has many utilities and nifty ideas. But until I posted those pics on Babblers Anon, I had no use for that kind of service. While I keep up with a lot of techno-babble, it tends to be in my line of work. Stuff like SIP, H.323, H.265, VoIP, IP conferencing, IM etc. Utilities that appeal to John Q. Public simply aren't arcane enough for me. I knew I wanted a service like photobucket, just didn't know the name of the service I was going to use.
10:20 pm
Jacula
As for the lat 34 words I have left to find - can I e bothered?
10:21 pm
brandyjack
And just what else were you planning on doing for the next hour and 40 minutes.....
10:22 pm
Jacula
Curl up to sleep next to my sleeping giant?
10:22 pm
Blaze
I am down to 120 words tofind... and they are going to stay lost... I need a snack before the flip.... see you all then.... and I will look forany fleetwood mac musci that I may have.....
10:23 pm

Earplugs not needed right now, so maybe right time to snuggle down?

Thanx again LA. Am down to last 4 and they're all st....
WISH ME LUCK!!!!
10:24 pm
brandyjack
Better let the young'un get his sleep now Jacs, he probably has to work in the morning.....
10:27 pm
72 Temple Owl
hello there!
10:28 pm
brandyjack
I'm missing the first st6/18.
10:29 pm
Nonny
It's like the one above it with a vowel. I'm missing the one below it. Any help there?
10:30 pm
Nonny
And Hi to you Temple Owl. Just starting???
10:31 pm
brandyjack
THink it was blaze's clue for that one earlier. LIke the semi-**** punctuation mark. It's the base for the 8 that follows.....
10:31 pm
72 Temple Owl
may i have a clue for the te7, please? and the ta6 that does not have all of the criations to it?
10:32 pm
Dianne
BJ - add a vowel to the st5/10 above it.
10:32 pm
72 Temple Owl
whoops, nonny - yes - i was doing puzzle on papaer - house guest, did not want to be rude...
10:32 pm
brandyjack
Got it. Thanks Nonny and Diane.
10:33 pm
Nonny
It's the one above it with the past tense of eat....
10:38 pm
Nonny
Can't seem to find the st 8/45 and 7/32. HELP PLEASE!!!! I'm getting tired and want to go to bed....
It's tough to be growing old.....
10:38 pm
brandyjack
Well, I don't know exactly what you mean by criations, but both ta6's are based on the ta4. The first one is plural of one who does the verb of ta4. The second is the most ta4.
10:40 pm
Dianne
Nonny - for the 1st half think of a nick name for a Russian vodka and leave off the last vowel. For the 2nd part think what goes with gin and leave off the first letter.
10:40 pm
brandyjack
For the st7/32, it's the st5 above with a three letter ending that begins with the last letter of the 5. Someone said the paste tense of eaten is the three letter ending.
10:40 pm
Nonny
Found the st 7/32. Need st 8/45.
10:42 pm
Nonny
Thanx Diane. You too BrandyJack even though I got it by myself first. ;-P
10:43 pm
brandyjack
If you got the st6 above it, add the last two letters of the usual mixer for gin. Other wise take the name used for your intestines (no, not guts) replace the first letter with st to get the st6/18 and go from there.
10:44 pm
Nonny
I've FINISHED!!! YEA ME!!!! I'm doing my get-to-go-to-bed dance!!!!
10:44 pm
brandyjack
Always glad to stick my half pence in....
10:45 pm
brandyjack
Careful with that jubilant dancing. Could hurt yourself at your age.....
10:51 pm
Mubner
I'm stuck in a bucket of mud, please help.....need second fr 6/30 and the next one after it... the fr 5/16. Any clues?
10:52 pm
Dianne
2nd Fr6/30 - plural of the Fr5/18.
10:54 pm
Mubner
Thanks, Dianne, I looked right over that one...
10:57 pm
Dianne
Mubner - so did I - it was the last word that I got to finish.
10:58 pm
Marc Freeman

11:29 pm
brandyjack
