anyone have a clue for the ec5/12?
2:37 am
Angelsong
Missy...I did refresh; didn't help. my word list is still here.
2:38 am
MissyMe
Angel but you can't type in a word? When that happens to me I have to close my browser and start everything again
2:40 am
Angelsong
missy..no, that isn't the problem. for example, one of the g's in the grid has a single word it begins with, another has 12. if I use the wrong g to begin a certain word and should have used the other, I've blocked myself, have I not?
2:42 am
MissyMe
Angel that is a mess!
2:43 am
Hugabugs
monc - ec5/12 - brilliance, (based on the French word for lightening)
2:43 am
Angelsong
so, no point in working on this particular grid. *sigh*...
2:44 am
MissyMe
it shouldn't block you just because you used the wrong one...you'll be "blocked" so to speak until you find a word the grid will accept...in the meantime...it's recognizing every word you use, whether its the right one or not
2:44 am
mab
excuse me for popping in and out so often, but it matters not which g you begin the word with. The grid is simply a record of the first occurence of words.
2:44 am
Hugabugs
Angel... I don't understand... how does the game know which letter you have started from?
2:45 am
Angelsong
ok. so I'm not going to give up yet!
2:48 am
Angelsong
to explain, Hugabug, I'd have to put some of the words in my response. I don't know if that's ok or not...
2:50 am
Hugabugs
The grid doesn't know which letter you are starting from... it selects it from the first letter that it's possible to make that specific word from... the grid can't tell how you see it, only if it is a word that's acceptable.
2:51 am
mab
Angel, the grid does not control anything; it's just a record or the first ocurrence of words. If you use a different g than the one listed in the grid, the grid will record that it's g has been used, but in the end it doesn't matter at all. Does that make any sense?
2:53 am
Angelsong
sure it does, and it helps a lot, thanks Mab

So Ive put on the kennel heater and left her out there - she will start to howl when she has had enough.....

I kept them all up until they dropped! I had a really subversive grandmother and am modelling myself on her!!! Great fun - much to the disgust of my two children who seem to think their kids have to be perfect at all time. I have to spend a lot of time pointing out theuir childhood deficiencies!!!!!

Oh doxy - they're GREAT!!!! As much as I love my own 2 - the grandchildren are a joy & NOT because you can give them back! I think it's because you can be much more laid back with the grandchildren, the pressure is off and there's more time for fun.
10:43 am

OK Ren - got to go but this is for you:
Mummers tradition dates back to 400 BC and the Roman Festival of Saturnalias where Latin laborers marched in masks throughout the day of satire and gift exchange. This included Celtic variations of "trick-or-treat" and Druidic noise-making to drive away demons for the new year. Reports of rowdy groups "parading" on New Years day in Philadelphia date back before the revolution. Prizes were offered by merchants in the late 1800's. January 1, 1901 was the first "official" parade.

babb..... le word rhymes with the stuff you use in making homemade jam/jelly
5:12 pm
Eva
It felt like some wonderful and mysterious omen.
This is only the second time we've seen the owl....since s/he is nocturnal, dusk is the only time we can get a glimpse. S/he is very interested in the birdfeeder - not to eat from it, but to eat those who are eating from it. But they are all gone buy the time the owl begins hunting. The red squirrels have built tunnels through the snow so that they can pop up and get right to the seed, without being exposed for too long.
5:13 pm
Babbler
thanks, moncrunchr : )
Eva - it probably was an omen. Have you looked it up?
5:14 pm
Eva
No- didn't realize that there as an omen site(-: and the Delphic oracle is long gone. Where would I look it up?

Happy New Year, Peri!! : )
5:22 pm
Eva
The Romans apaprently believed owls were harbingers of doom and death. The Greeks believed they were omens of impending victory in battle. Very powerful symbols, whatever the culture. For me the message was of wonder, the wisdom in stillness, the ability to wait, to act only when the moment is right.
5:24 pm
Babbler
then that's probably what the message was, Eva. : )
5:24 pm
Eva
well the squirrels would probably do beter at this puzzle than I am - 67 words left to find and at that point where I simply can't believe that there are any more and if there are, they are utterly beyond my ken. Maybe if I became owlike and crunched on a few squirrel brains I'd be doing better?

8:37 pm

Damn, one letter away from being able to spell 'tmesis'.
8:37 pm
mamabear
doesn't feel so close, mab!
8:38 pm
LeslieAnn
boa, if something's great you might say it's terr**** - put that ending on the un
8:38 pm
LeslieAnn

8:39 pm
mab
Thanks LeslieAnn -- would not have gotten that word.
8:40 pm
moncrunchr
got the UN from that clue Leslie....thanks! Eight more to go!
8:42 pm
aknitter
i am too thick tonight, i can not figure out the un 10 even with the clue. is there another, perhaps one at the first grade level for those of us who are not too swift?
8:43 pm
LeslieAnn
first three letters same as ***cycle + a baby horse - a, + third vowel + what you did with your dinner
8:44 pm
Blaze
un 10 un* (together) (aluminum) (after dinner you have )
8:46 pm
GreyWoulf
hi again everyone -- I had to disappear due to putting baby to bed -- sorry :)
8:47 pm
Blaze
how are you GW how is the mama....
8:47 pm
aknitter
grrrr i can't get it i am toooooo dumb to see it
8:48 pm
GreyWoulf

(*HUGS to all*)
8:48 pm

*hugs back gw*
8:48 pm
Blaze
knitter the def: is : Having a single leaf.
8:48 pm
GreyWoulf
Blaze -- the mama is doing well -- very tired and frustrated at her low energy levels, but otherwise well -- thanks for asking :)
8:49 pm
Blaze
I am I correct in remembering she only has less than 6 weeks to go...???
8:49 pm
aknitter
oh blaze ty ty ty, i was going the wrong way ... after dinner i have tea !!!!!AH please hit me with a big fish
8:49 pm
moncrunchr
UGH. I am missing one of the UN5/12 words. I have 'not illuminated', and the one before it with the last vowel changed, and the one meaning 'to join'.... what am i missing?
8:50 pm
GreyWoulf
of course, now I have gone from having a baby in my lap to having a cat there -- makes typing tricky as she has a paw on my hand while I type :D
8:51 pm
aknitter
these un words are most unpleasant
8:51 pm
mamabear
mon - when you make dinner, you *** the table... when you are through, you un*** it.
8:52 pm
Blaze
thank you mama\
8:52 pm
GreyWoulf
Yes you are, Blaze -- Feb 3rd is the big day -- that should be 'interesting' to say the least -- we're not sure how baby is going to respond to us taking mama to the hospital and then go home without her :)
8:53 pm
Blaze
a good plan is to have the mama take longer times away if possible.....with you or a great person in her care...
8:54 pm
mamabear
GW - will you be able to take some time off work when the baby is born?
8:55 pm
GreyWoulf
Unfortunately, not a viable option, Blaze -- but Kristianna responds well to changes in her routine so long as Daddy is around so it should be OK -- getting her to sleep that night will be the trickiest part, but if I let her stay up a bit later it should all be good :)
8:55 pm
Blaze
ah my u's are in the grey .....
8:56 pm
Blaze
GW another good trick is have her cuddle with the mama's housecoat and talk lots to her about when mama is coming home.....
8:56 pm
GreyWoulf
Wow! lots of long posts here -- sorry to all other players :)
Mama -- I am taking a week off from work -- hopefully that will be enough -- I can take some more if I need to, but money will get veeeerrry tight if I do :)
8:57 pm
GreyWoulf
Thanks for that advice, Blaze -- I will write that one down!
8:58 pm
Blaze
gw... will you be able to get paternity benefits... in Canada the unemployment system works that out..
8:59 pm
SueL
Can someone give me a clue for fo 7 40 and fo 8 55.
please.............
8:59 pm
GreyWoulf
I could, Blaze but it counts as short term disability which is only around 60% of salary which would not let me meet my financial obligations -- Grandma is going to be around to help out so it should be OK
9:00 pm
lilspotteddog
how many words today?
9:00 pm
GreyWoulf
SueL -- when you use a deep skin cleanser you will exfo7 the skin
9:01 pm
LeslieAnn
oh gw that's the best clue i've seen all day for that one
9:01 pm
Blaze
seul think trees and leaves and plural ending is when you are NOT on time
9:01 pm
GreyWoulf
Let's see -- 100 to go, time to focus on finding some words ;)
9:02 pm
GreyWoulf
Thanks, Leslie -- btw -- I've lost track -- was it you who loves Kenya (the animation)?
9:02 pm

9:04 pm
GreyWoulf

9:04 pm
SueL

the fish.
9:04 pm
mab
Take care, MamaBear and have a nice rest.
9:05 pm
Blaze
suel DEF: Having a specified kind or number of leaves:
9:05 pm
LeslieAnn
suel, take your fo 4/7 (aluminum fo**) and switch the last two letters. then add what you did with your dinner (that was the best meal i ever ***!)
9:06 pm
GreyWoulf
Mama - Rest and Fluids are the key to beating this virus -- so sleep well knowing that we all care for you and drink lots of juice and/or water :)

moncrunchr
ty ty ty all..... (don't worry Leslie, my self esteem is fine.... at least NOW it is.... LOL)..... anyone need any clues before I go off to play online Spades? hehehe
9:12 pm
moncrunchr
(at least THERE a 'game' only takes 20 minutes instead of 10 hours.... but then, I'm still new to this one)
9:15 pm
LeslieAnn
it does get easier, mon, especially when you start remembering the odd "Babble words" and don't have to look them up each time
9:17 pm
GreyWoulf
It gets even easier than that, mon, when you stop worrying about finishing and just give your self over to the joy that is Babble ;D
9:18 pm
GreyWoulf
You know, I think there is a book in there somewhere....
hmmmm.. "Zen and the Art of Babbling"
What does everyone think?
9:19 pm
moncrunchr
I'd buy your book GW! :D
9:20 pm
Blaze
absolutely GW
9:21 pm
Angelsong
GW, I have had a lot of fun today. I created a personal webpage that is stored on my hard drive, and put all my Babble links and resources and information on the game on the page; now I can load the single page into my browser, and everything is easily accessible.
9:21 pm
Blaze
down to 82 but must depart for a bit....
9:21 pm
mamabear
Sounds good, GW... there would have to be a chapter in there on "fish"...such as:
One fish,
Two fish,
Red fish,
Plural fish!
9:21 pm
LeslieAnn
LOL mama
9:22 pm
GreyWoulf
Angel -- now that is dedication to the game! I never would have thought to do that :)
9:23 pm
LeslieAnn
woot! done! have just a few minutes for clues if anyone needs some
9:23 pm
Angelsong
I hate flipping back and forth for things; now I don't have to; and I can update the page very easily using a text editor.
9:25 pm
moncrunchr
WTG! LeslieAnn! High five!
9:25 pm
GreyWoulf
Yeah for Leslie!!!
9:27 pm

9:33 pm
Griffums
oy, I *really* need that NY's resolution now...and I haven't had dessert yet either (but I'm gonna)
9:35 pm
GreyWoulf
LOL, Griff -- my place if filled with desserts right now -- tastycake product was on sale at the market -- we still have a bunch of stuff that Kirsten baked last week.... and her mother brought over a banana bread today!!
9:36 pm
Griffums
Ooooh, Tastykakes! (They don't sell them here) Years (too many) years ago I used to babysit for a player of the Redskins, and marveled because sponsor Tastykake delivered like a hundred new boxes to their house every week. Mmmmemories. Okay back to grid.
9:37 pm
GreyWoulf
Griff -- if you ever want any, just e-mail me ;)
9:38 pm
Griffums
I'll remember that!

9:41 pm
GreyWoulf
Haven't been to HSR in awhile, but yes :)
Found santa because of Kristianna and immediately thought of you ;D
9:43 pm
LeslieAnn
awwwwight you have good taste
9:45 pm
GreyWoulf
Thanks Leslie -- but I don't have one of the to4/7's -- I have the homestead, what's the other?
9:46 pm
LeslieAnn

9:50 pm
GreyWoulf
I don't believe that the to5/12 and 6/21 were the last to's I found!!! After all I am the (almost) shaman here!! :D
9:51 pm
Griffums
I found those early on but then up here, you can't throw a rock without hitting one of those poles... :)
9:51 pm
GreyWoulf
Hi Jera -- how was the train trip?
(I haven't seen you in awhile :) )
9:51 pm
micamonkey

Happy New Year Jeff!!!!
9:53 pm
micamonkey

9:54 pm
GreyWoulf
mica -- it is definitely worth it!!
I had to count my pennies too and did it as soon as I could :)
9:55 pm
GreyWoulf
After all, icon shopping is soooo much fun !! ;D
9:55 pm
Jera
Oh, GW, it was horrible!! We were the last ones on the train & had to sit near the doors & we nearly froze... it was bad. The car was full & there weren't three seats together, so we all sat in 2 seats (which really wasn't bad), so I'll be getting some money back. 3 hour delay, the last one of which was spent one freakin' mile from the station. I could've walked there in the amount of time we spent just waiting... I had to sit down & cry once we finally got the heck offa there!!
9:55 pm
micamonkey
lol yeah i know its the lure of the icons >: )
9:56 pm
Griffums
that's the way it is, mica... you get a little of the free taste and now you're hooked....
9:57 pm
GreyWoulf
OH, Jera!!! I am so sorry to hear that!!
(*Big HUG*)
Hopefully the rest of the holidays helped to alleviate the stress from the trip :)
9:59 pm
micamonkey
lol griff, i like to think that i have a strong will power.. *cough*yeahright*cough*
10:00 pm
Jammersbabe
Good Evening all, getting a late start
10:00 pm
Griffums
I'd like to think that I'd get a kickback for standing over here against the chainlink fence beckoning you into the darkness, but alas, I don't.
10:00 pm
Jera
Thanks
*snuffles into GW's shoulder*
The rest was pretty good... the kids had a blast running wild with dozens of cousins & there was even a brand-new 2 month old baby cousin!!
It was kinda sad that I didn't get to visit much with my mother-in-law, my F-I-L is pretty feeble, just had another knee surgery & can't do much on his own. Caring for him is pretty time consuming!
10:01 pm
GreyWoulf
mica -- (*spooky voice*) -- the icons are calling.... they want you to shop for them... you can not resist the icons....
10:02 pm
micamonkey
lol GW i think i'm gonna hold out till i get paid from my holiday job... expecting some pennies to be rollin' in next month
10:02 pm
Griffums
72 wds to go in two hours, by gummies I think I can get this done even if I stop for dessert!
10:03 pm
GreyWoulf
(*normal voice as if nothing is going on*)
Well, that's all right then, in'nit?

10:04 pm
GreyWoulf
Griff -- I have 72 to go as well!!
Wouldn't it be really weird if they were the same ones? ;D
10:04 pm
Griffums
yes mica, but to us it only makes half as much sense, so you're even
10:04 pm
Griffums
That would in fact be REALLY weird.
Mica, you are too smart, too fast, too much!
10:05 pm
Griffums
(dessert is Starbucks java chip with Luna Mocha liqueur - that chocolate tequila stuff? - on top)
maybe I'll just go get the carton... and the bottle
10:05 pm
GreyWoulf
Baaaad pun, Griffums!!!!!
10:06 pm
Jera
Well, what shall we do to celebrate my birthday tomorrow?? A 300 word puzzle, but all the words are really easy would be nice...
10:07 pm
GreyWoulf
Jera -- Happy Birthday in advance -- It's Mamabears B-day as well!
10:08 pm
Jera
Wow, how cool! Shoulda known she was a fellow Cappy...
10:09 pm
GreyWoulf
Yep --- though she is currently seriously hit by a virus, so any good vibes you can send her way would be appreciated ;)
10:10 pm
micamonkey
griff: oh bleh
I've seen you guys finish the puzzle when i've spent hours and not even half way there
you guys are my inspiration ;)
10:10 pm
GreyWoulf
Griff -- you are having THAT for dessert and you call mica too much!?! (LOL)
10:11 pm
Jera
You think she would mind my lighting a candle for her?
10:11 pm
Griffums
er, well, yeah...and if I told you what I had for dinner you'd fire me! I might have to send in a designated eater!
10:11 pm
GreyWoulf
Jera -- I am sure she would welcome it :)
10:11 pm
Griffums
haaa mica, that made me laugh right out loud!
Griffums the Inspira........ splutter, nope I can't even say it
10:12 pm
GreyWoulf
Now you have to tell, Griff -- what was dinner?
10:13 pm
micamonkey
*angelic look*
ok think i better quietly sneak away before i draw too much attention to myself again ;)
BUT YES GRIFFFFFFF
Inspire away! ;)
10:13 pm
Griffums
oh, baby, it was sooooooo good. Rib steak and mushrooms done in a pan with butter and red wine reduction, oven roasted potatoes with thyme and parsley, peas that I picked from my friend Becky's garden this summer. And lots of all of it. And Alaskan Winter Ale (spruce-tip brew, it's YUMMO) to fill in the few remaining gaps. Gosh, I love living alone and being the only person to eat all the food.... mmmmmmmph oof
10:15 pm
GreyWoulf
mica -- I know how you feel re:being inspired -- I usually am only just past half finished when others announce completion --- that's the only reason why I love the little grids -- I am usually one of the first ones done :D
10:15 pm
maggiegirl
speaking of inspiration - my goal tonight is to get my list below 100 needed words. . . .I'm taking this challenge in strides!

Griff, if you ever come to visit, you have to cook at least one meal like that for me
10:17 pm
Griffums
No problem but it's so easy anyone could do it. (I don't cook anything that takes time or attention!)
10:18 pm
circe
I have 9 to go, and am just not sure I can do it...
I can't seem to get these last ones...
The al 7 is on my list too, Jera, but the gi 5 is a leg of lamb if that helps

10:25 pm
SueL

10:25 pm
maggiegirl
i'm looking at the stats here on this page. one column says i have no g's and the other column says I have 8 of 12
10:26 pm
Griffums
gi 5/18 = common anagram in computers for what you get if you put 'junk' in... plus T at the end
(I'll see if I can come up with a better one)
10:26 pm
GreyWoulf

...and so the mists beging to clear....

10:26 pm
Jera
My missing one is from the far right column if that helps anyone help me...
10:27 pm
Jera
Whoo-hoo!
*happy dance of doneness*
10:27 pm
Jera

maggiegirl

Thanks for the fun and goodnight
10:28 pm

10:29 pm
JoJoFunLvg
Hi Everyone. Been working trying to solve the puzzle for a few. Had a good day, went to the movie "Rumor has it". Jennifer Anistan did a great job, but Shirley McLaine stoled the show. Shirley is great. Good show, go see it everyone, if you like comedies.
10:29 pm
Jera
Huzzah for maggie!!
*throws confetti as she dances*
10:29 pm
GreyWoulf

Hi GW. *hug*. Going to click off in a few minutes. I have to watch my most favorite show on TV. Desperate Housewives, it is new tonite.
10:34 pm
mab
ish -- le plus three-letter metal t**, and put a c in the middle.
10:34 pm
Jera
That would be the 7, Ishult, the 6 would not be plural
10:34 pm
lshult
much better, ty
10:35 pm
circe
finally!
This was a hard one for me I guess.
Anyone need any clues before i head to bed??
10:35 pm
Jera
I wasn't sure if giving away the c would be too big of a hint... I'm not good at hints... but I love to help!
*ponders her Babble dilema*
10:36 pm
Babs1
first fo 4/7 clue please?
10:36 pm

10:39 pm
Babs1
sorry..I did have those..thought I still needed fi's ..must be the fo's...will look next
10:40 pm
Jera
For some reason the words with O in them were elusive... then you turn your head & squint to see them & say, "Why didn't I see that before??"
10:40 pm
circe
li 7/28
li + to 5/10
10:41 pm
Babs1

10:42 pm
GreyWoulf
Working in the li's myself, circe -- thanks for the 7 -- don't have the 6 yet
10:42 pm
Griffums
li 6/24 - part of a old-time textile blend called li - woolsey
10:43 pm
Jera
Babs1, you'll need the fish... think pet parasite (a collar repels)
10:45 pm
Babs1
*gulping the fish* no time for pride here since I'm trying to finish before all my hair is pulled out!
10:45 pm
Jera
No worries, Babs1, we're all all too familiar with the fish!!
10:46 pm
GreyWoulf
Besides -- I think sprite still has the fish since she took it away from me to keep me from hurting myself :)
10:47 pm
mab
hint for of6 please?
10:48 pm
Babs1
next potential fish...fo 5/24

10:49 pm
Jera
If someone is no fun, always telling the kids to turn down the music, you might say he's an old fo***
10:50 pm
Griffums
(babs, same word appears as fo 4/11 in alt spelling)
10:50 pm

Nite, circe, sweet dreams! Come back tomorrow!

10:52 pm
lshult
of6= of+ t4/4
Found li7, but the 6 still escapes me?
10:53 pm
mab
Ishult -- li - woolsey.
10:53 pm
GreyWoulf
lshult - the li6 builds off the li4/4 -- add vowel and consonant
10:54 pm
Babs1
second call for 5/24, por favor?
10:55 pm
Jera
What 5/24, Babs (sorry I didn't see first call)??
10:55 pm
Griffums
We both responded to the first call, Jera... I don't know another clue for that word tho.
10:56 pm
Jera
Are you still looking for the fo5/24, Babs? The old no fun person clues didn't work for you?
10:57 pm
GreyWoulf
Babs -- think in terms of bad weather -- but spelt wrong -- a very fo*** day --- need a special horn to protect ships at sea
10:58 pm
brandyjack
add a vowel to the fo4/7
10:58 pm
micamonkey
yeah instead of the double consonant, sub with a vowel
like do 5/20
10:58 pm
Jera
Hmmm, okay, here's another go... think of a weather occurrance that looks like smoke... fo*** weather where you need the lighthouse... drop second of the doubled consonant & replace it with an e.
10:59 pm
brandyjack
in the fo***, fo*** dew.....
10:59 pm
GreyWoulf
And you said you were bad at giving clues! :D
11:00 pm
Jera
I was pretty on for that one, but totally at a loss for the li6... guess I blow hot & cold, LOL
11:00 pm
Jera
brandyjack swoops in with simplicity...
11:00 pm
GreyWoulf

GW fo+ opp of early
11:02 pm
Jera
Hey, guess what, everybody...?
11:02 pm
GreyWoulf

Happy Birthday. Jera!!!
11:04 pm
Jera
YESS!!! Happy birthday to me!!
11:04 pm
Griffums
Happy birthday!
11:05 pm
brandyjack
fo 6/27 it's an isotropic form of iron. plus the plural, whereas the fo7/40 and it's plural refer to leaves. Or for you females, your facial creams that clean the dead skin of your complexions are said to ex-fo7/40...... and plural.
11:05 pm
micamonkey
happy birthday jera :D
11:05 pm
Angelsong
Happy Birthday to Jera, and good wishes to MammaBear as well.

11:13 pm
Jera
Hey, I wonder why my profile still says I'm 36? When does it become a "new day" in Babbleland... new puzzle??
11:13 pm
mab
ea 7 plural of your 6 - consumings
11:13 pm
brandyjack
ea7/36 is plural of the ea6/24 before it.... not a word I would be likely to use, but it seems to be valid....
11:14 pm
Babs1
lo 5/12? also missing a lo 4/4...one of the last few
have the one that is the ****cloth and the piece of land + a vowel
11:14 pm
brandyjack
did you hit the 'update babble' bubble?
11:14 pm
Griffums
... or rhymes with the phrase "Season's Gr....."
11:14 pm
Jera
