we brush Merp every morning with a wire brush. If it's really excessive, then you should talk to the vet. The brushing removes some hair intentionally, and is also good for the fur. As hydra says, usually the peak molting is when it is getting warmer.

If you saw a ful length photo of Merp you would know that I don't have a solution for the weight issue. If they don't go out and are relatively inactive, they don't burn fat and also dont have a whole lot else to look forward to.
