And you also might want to check out Herbert Benson's work-he's at harvard and is the one who coined the relaxationr response. i know the feelieng abotu not wanting to be on more meds which then create more problems. Unfortunately sometiems the meds are necessary, or at least temporarily, but the alternative is really taking hold of a practice....takes a lot more discipline and motivation than taking a pill and we aren't support in any of that in this culture.

that's exactly how I'm working it Sprite. Have given in to some medications for the moment, but have lost 25 pounds, am walking 2 miles a day, have brought my blood sugar back from the brink of diabetic to completely normal. Some of the heart stuff, though, is also genetic, and with the estrogenic protection now dwindling there may not be much I can do about it...but I'm trying all kinds of nutritional stuff and will keep increasing exercise, so we'll see. At least if I end up on the medications I'll know that I did everything else in my power to make things better.

I have struggled with weight most of my life too, and still am, but I guess that at 57 the reality that I don;t have time to do this to myself anymore, and will end up on a whole host of meds and side effects, scared me into some changes. I don't know what your handicap is, and of course you are the only one who can know what is possible and what not, but there are always ways...not necessarily to do things perfectly, or to be like anyone else, but to take hold of our health as best we can, and feel some growing confidence in getting healtheir. If you love swimming, and it is important enough to you, then there will be ways to make it enough of a prioirity to arrange things as you need them, or get the help you need to make it doable.

i know all our pools have to be complient to the disability act. this means all pools have to have a chair lift thingie, a ramp which has bars or steps into the pool, there has to be at least one entrance that is for the not so mobile

For instance, several times I have begun using the "Strong Women Stay Young Program". it is a home weight lifting program which was invented at Tufts University and has had tones of research...especially used with elderly frail people., It does all kinds of wonderful things, including protecting against osteoperosis. You start with very light weight and then keep increasing. Well, every time I increased beyond a certain point i would hurt myself and end up not being able to do it for weeks and then give up. The physical therapist I am seeing now said what is pretty obvious , which is to just stick with the lighter level, not give in to my macho side, because the lighter level is still strengthening and giving me all kinds of good stuff. DUH.

I'm there every Monday and Friday, but everyone's really nice. Also there might be support groups, moederkrings, that sort of thing that they might know about... or f you need thuishulp and they won't give it to you we could maybe help... I'll get the URL and post it in a sec. But definietly do let me help with the kids sometimes! I have sumemr break coming up...

it depends, bunny. In your area, they would need shade (originally most are understory plants) and a lot of water, and cover in the winter if it gets very cold. They require acid soil, like blueberries. In fact, if you find a blueberry that will live, a rhodie would do okay. Do you have a north-east facing wall?
