stid: my husband turns 50 on Saturday. We have a custom to make a big, lifesize doll in the image of the birthday boy or girl at that age. He "gets to see Abraham". We made the doll (or dummy??) yesterday evening, from old clothes, hay, shoes, one of his old hats... I had asked friends to help me because I really couldn't handle it myself. Somewhere halfway it turned into a party, lol. We were having so much fun :)

Fran, it was about "Tiny Bubbles". We had a Dane puppy who came back to us (at no fault of anyone, a matter of stress -- long story) almost at death's door. She recovered and we all called her Tiny Bubbles. Eventually she died too young. I had travelled to Memphis from Montreal to do a breeding to a lovely champion shortly afterwards and a group of us went to a piano bar. The pianist played Tiny Bubbles and I dissolved into a blubbering fool. Still makes my eyes prickle.

Well I just called the poison hotline, and she told me how to clean up the teeny drops, and that the kind of mercury in a thermometer is "elemental" which means I should be safe from the tiny amount I might have ingested. The big thing is to NEVER dispose of it in the trash or toilet, because then it changes into organic mercury and is highly toxic.
