How's this for getting things in perspective? I'm privileged to have an 86-year-old WW2 heroine as a friend. She is Dutch - one of those people who secretly helped pilots get back to England. Her late husband pretended to be an SS officer but was eventually caught and put in a concentration camp, but survived. She is also an artist, photographer, brilliant duplicate bridge player and teacher, and avid reader of important books. She suddenly went blind two days ago and can only distinguish light from dark. When I spoke to her on the phone today she said "Oh, it's just another challenge." And if I know this wonderful lady, she will meet it and defeat it.
