Thanksgiving is one of the biggest travel days in the country. When I used to drive to family that day I was horribly aware that the road was filled with thousands of other people, most extremely anxious about the fact that they were going to be with family. Even those who don't come from pretty troubled families (and I think that's a pretty rarified group) know that bringing everyone together is hardly ever a beatific, peaceful occassion. Also, the tradition is to eat until completely stupified and then some more. But don't get me wrong, I love Thanksgiving!

About 7 years ago I gradually weaned everyone I know away from holiday gift giving. I let it be know that I wouldn't be giving gifts, except for spontaneous baked stuff or home made stuff - but that could come at any time, and that if they felt that it really would make them feel bad not to give gifts to me, that was fine, I wouldn't refuse them but that I wouldn't reciprocate because it was just too anxiety provoking and expensive for all of us. Since them I've begun to enjoy the holidays again. But I think it's different if one has small children.

My idea of a perfect christmas would be to rent a cabin up north... with one other family..no tv..maybe a radio so you can pick up one of those channels that plays christmas music 24/7 and everyone make the decoartion for a tree you cut down from the woods..and justhave a nice christmas dinner filled with board games... and books...and outdoors activities...

9 inch round, TO. If you have a high quality springform it may be no problem at all. Knowing me, ours is probably a cheap knock-off that doesn't seal right. But it has to sit in a water bath while it bakes, so if a bit of water gets in around the cracks of the pan, it gets a bit soggy there.
