I moved up some things like his little toy dog-care set, all his character stuffies (Dora and Boots, the Wonder Team, Diego and Baby Jaguar), and rearranged his furniture so he can lean on the wall as a headboard and generally made it more big-boy-ish in there. The more I read and talk to people, the more Totally Normal this looks for the age and my instinct is to just let him do it and expect a sudden explosion of food exploration sometime in the next year. 2 c. flour
2 c. milk
6 eggs
1 tsp salt

Mix with whisk. It's ok to leave a few lumps. If you're not going to use right away, keep at room temperature. I like the results better if the batter has sat for awhile. Put about 1/2 tsp. oil in muffin cups (bacon fat IS the best!). Heat pans in 400 F oven until very hot. Fill muffin cups about half full of batter and bake approx. 25 mins.

2. Grease a Yorkshire pudding tin with a little vegetable oil. Place the tin in the oven to preheat.

5. Remove the tin from the oven. Pour in the batter, filling each case only three quarters full.
6. Place the tin in the oven and bake for 10 minutes, or until puffy and raised.

Method : 1. Add some thyme and a sliced onion or a couple of shallots when roasting the beef as this will caramelise with the meat juices to flavour the gravy.
2. When the joint is cooked, remove it from the oven tray and set aside. Cover the meat with foil and leave to rest while making the gravy.
3. Spoon off any excess fat, then place the roasting tin on the hob and heat gently. Add a couple of heaped teaspoons of plain flour (2 teaspoons is enough to thicken about 300ml liquid) and stir into the meat juices, scraping up all the sticky, caramelised meat and onion sediment as you go. Cook for a minute or so until the flour turns golden and thickens, then gradually add a little red wine, stirring well and bringing up to the boil before splashing in a little more liquid, until you have the pouring consistency you like. Taste and season well.
4. Strain the gravy through a sieve into a clean pan, add a little English or wholegrain mustard for a rich flavour, then return to the boil and serve.

I once got onto a school bus and discovered that another student had found out who my grandfather is (I must have been 15 or so). He ytelled, "HEY Katrina, who's this?" and stuffed a harmonica entirely into his mouth. A real hoot.

Sam also has a Master's in herpetology. We sure had some fun times. It's hard to see him confined to a care facility. I mean, my aunt gets him out every few days to an aquarium or restaurantor her house or the embarcadero... but I mean, he's 91. He has light dementia and is just, well, old. But his heart and everything are great. The thing is he misses my grandmother so much.... me too of course. They brought me up. Remarkable people.

Leslie, my grandmother, had a Bachelor's in fine arts, and was just such a joy.... Her sister was a condustor and taught piano, among others to to David Byrne (sp?), and plays viola in Fantasia. Oh, and my grandmother was in the Ave Maria chorus in Fantasia.

it is really hard at the end of life when things like that happen, monkey. The dementia could actually be mostly the grief, actually. Elderly people express grief differently from younger ones, and "mild dementia" can be one of the symptoms.

Don't I know it. I'm sure that's a huge factor--or else heloing take care of Leslie was staving it off, that can happen too. They were true soul mates, and she died after 65 years of marriage. I still have trouble dealing with it, I can only imagine how he feels.

When we called the sheriff's office just now we were told that our son had started it??? I think I should have been more clear that the bully is nearly a foot taller than our son!

Yes, the sheriff is the one to call, we live in the county, not a municipality. Sheriff has been called in the past for this child. *sigh* We didn't press charges a couple years ago when the boy pulled a gun on our son (turned out it was an "airsoft" gun, but had been altered to look real, and still would have hurt) -- now I think I should have.

No, nothing we can do otherwise at this time. To be honest, we are a little sad we had to call the sheriff -- who contacted the other child's parents. That father will be emphatically letting his son know to stay in line. It will work for a while, but the kid will know who to really blame, and it could get sticky when school starts up in a couple weeks.

the local high school is not the best place for anti-bullying. They are large and don't really care too much about the students. Fortunately, the other child is not academically skilled and our son is taking college-track courses. They were in the same freshman English, but shouldn't have any more classes together ever.

Thanks dorens, we will have a meeting before school starts again to go over the accomodations for our son and I will mention it at that point. The middle school/grade school (combined K-8) was a lot better at supporting all the kids involved in things like this
