I did have to go on anti-anxiety meds, but they made me almost mad with anxiety! haven't eaten for 4 weeks, and haven't slept for 5 weeks more than 3 hours a night.

Husband doesn't usually get so attached but he and the other vet were draining fluid every four hours and the dog just let them get on with things. Annie, the other vet, was in tears when she had to put him down.

Well, the last heartworm treatment seems to have left her none the worse for the wear, but her skin is sitll bad--no longer open sores and the like, but she has this rust color on her. The vet said she tested neg for mange, and only had some yeast but she doesn't have fleas, but the rust color is disconcerting....

4 years, pit bull AM-Bull mix. She is a cruelty rescue. Advanced HW. I have been fostering since July. When on antibiotics, it is better, she was treated for a staph infection... The sores have healed, but not the orangey-glow... Vet that is treating the HW want to wait before re-introducing antibiotics but thinks maybe a long-term dose... I am just not a huge antibiotics person, and she hasn't met "my" vet yet as I am not 100% sure I am dopting

you've treated for heartworm and mites, i assume you're covering for fleas also? have you looked for internal parasites? sometimes roundworms or tapeworms can lead to poor coat or skin, or even atopic/allergic outbreaks

akitas are really great dogs, for what they are. they were bred as guard dogs, and similar to chow chows they will attach strongly to a family and really don't tolerate well being pounced on/pulled around/handled by people outside their families. the problem is, they look like giant teddy bears, and kids love to tackle them :(
