soz, here's a strategy. when you make up a word, like the q qword, click on the ? next to it to get the definition; sometimes it will show a related word, like in this case.

everyone's different, i'm sure, but i start out entering words i know. but if i get a hint, like q words, or 8 letter words, etc. and i don't have them, i start making them up. to be a *really* high scorer--i'm not quite there by the way--you have to either be a walking dictionary, or make up quite a few. of course, the next time a made up word comes up, it's not made up if you remember it.

I think it may be time to start thinking about life outside in the sun! Yesterday was a gift from above. I had to proctor a three-hour essay exam...no laptops, no books, no cell phones...just pens and bluebooks. Without "Babble" I would have had little to do and a long afternoon. My method is to find all the little words first (even passing by the longer "forms"), adding neighbouring letters to those, then building compounds. My thanks Hasbro and PlayBabble.com for one terrific way to pass the time and still leave one eye available for watching the frantic scribbling. I agree with Beluga...the ? is a good prompt for alternative spelling.

hm, what if you could download the puzzle each day and play offline? then you'd only need a laptop--heck, download it to a pda--and you wouldn't need internet. then you can play outside & upload at day's end. of course, you'd miss the witty commentary. :)
