So, there I was tied for 1st in the overall standings. OK, so they had me at 2nd even tho my score was the same as the person in first. Then, on the next game, I came in 2nd and the other person who was ahead in overall, didn't even place. That meant that I should have moved into sole possession of 1st place, right? No way...not here! I dropped down to 3rd place. Go figure!

I CAN see a way in which the above situation can occur. I assume one's score is based on the average of all the games you have played over the last 30 days. Doesn't matter how many or few games you play, as long as you have played at least 3 games. Your score can go UP after a game in which you didn't participate if you played a game 30/31 days ago in which you didn't do so good (as that poor game result will no longer be included in the calculation of your average ranking score).
Alternatively, you may DROP in the rankings even if you did reasonably well in the latest game if a spectacular score you got 30/31 days ago is no longer included in working out your average.
And of course you have to factor in what everybody else has done in the last 30 days.
The other thing i'm thinking is seeing nobody is listed with the top ranking of 1000, then i think one's score for an individual game may be based on how close one comes to getting all the possible words. So a first place in one game may not be as good as a first place in another game where you've found a higher percentage of all potential words.

Of course, i could be totally wrong. :D
(Just passing by ... not babbling, but couldn't resist doing some "figuring" for a change)

It really does help to do this in bits and take lots of breaks. I got to the point that I could only see ghandi, hideous and polar and went away to play with the twinkies for a bit . . . came back and found over 200 pts in a half-dozen words that I couldn't 'see' earlier! ;-D
