An 8 for 65 ... almost didn't try it because to me it's just a city or girl's name. Turns out it has a couple of other meanings that make it a valid babble word :D
12:26 am

You would think I would have noticed that 8 for 65 when it didn't take floren. Thanks for the clue.

When you were kids, did you have the toy with a grid (like this) 25 spaces but 24 tiles, so you could move them around, to make words?
I vote we remove one of the Rs.
12:20 pm
Christine

If you squint your eyes, a little, you can see FELIXSTOWE -- well you can if you're a little homesick for the UK.

I don't know of any 8s beginning with H; I'm still wrestling with the second F-8
1:37 pm
periwinkle

Thanks Christine for the explanation. Yes, you did confuse me. I have not found any 8's so far. I have the 6 letter word starting with F but can't see the 8 letter word starting with F.

Clues for the F8s???
The first is a city in Europe also a proper name (it's wort 65); the second, in UK, we'd call hedgerow... and it's worth 80 points, not 50
The R8 and S8 are each worth 50 points.
Is that any help?

Wow, cant find any ns, tried all sorts of combinations. I have 8 fs but not the second 8 letter for hedgerow, lots of combinations of wooden type hedges, is it another one of those ? Any clues for the r and s please ?
6:11 pm
shortseer

i can't find this 4-letter N word despite plenty of random key-punching. Which N does it start with? Please tell me before i wear out my keyboard.

There are 2 other N words i've got ... used in perfumery.
6:14 pm
dimwit

I think it should accept roxanne and roxie.
And it won't take seerex, my neopet has one of those as a pet !
6:15 pm

The N on the bottom right. It was a guesss for me. Now please tell me which N's start your words. Perfumery does not help me.

Ive found the s8 but still hopelessly lost on the f8 despite having resorted to a dictionary!
6:16 pm

oh - thats for the perfumery and the 4 letter one
6:17 pm
Atalante

actually the perfume ones can run from either of the bottom Ns
6:18 pm

Is the perfumery one 6 letters. If so I got it. I should have found it on my own. I am intersted in aromatherapy.
6:21 pm

I've only found one N word used in perfumery. Can't find the other. How many letters does it have?
6:21 pm

if you've got one perfumed N, then you should have the other ;)
6:22 pm

Just found it. Thanks
6:24 pm

any help with the tolkien word, or the r 8 or s 8 ? I haven't made 700 yet !
6:24 pm
granadan

Am I right that this f8 must use the fw and c?
6:36 pm
granadan

Arrgh! Got it. i wasnt looking for something that obvious! Never heard the term over here though!
Cheers for hedgerow tip...
6:37 pm
Christine

Hi, Marianne -- are you Babbling???
What're these perfumery words? I have the four-letter bird, but perfume??
6:38 pm
shortseer

After trying over 30 potential combinations of letters, i have FINALLY found the 4-letter N word.

Go me.
6:39 pm
Christine

Granadan, are you inUK?
Where do hedgehogs live? where do bits of paper blow, along the lanes? Perhaps you just shorten the word, in day-to-day chat??
End of my motherly questioning.
6:40 pm

Out of the hedgerow clue, I can only get a maximum seven-letter word. What am I doing wrong?!
6:40 pm

r-f-h... Look at the beginning of the F7, for compound word (check a post @ 1:50).
6:52 pm

The tolkein word is 4 letters for 6 points.
6:54 pm
Christine

dimwit.... the only word I can thin of is bergamot, in Weil Antilope perfume. It make you smell like Duck a l'Orange, yummmy, but not very helpful..
Only other perfumery words I can recall are ATTAR and OTTO...
6:54 pm
jlm_mi

You know, there was a puzzle a while back that accepted sinh. So now, yesterday (I think, maybe 2 days ago?) and today, tanh is in the puzzle, and it won't accept it!. And yes, I am a math geek. ;)
6:56 pm
Atalante

try essential oils .... orangey essential oils :P
7:01 pm
dimwit

An aromatherapy oil, begins with ne, 5 and 6 letters is that too much help, Christine ? Don't hedgehogs live in leaf litter, paper goes in ditches ? maybe because it's 1 am I cannot think so clearly...........
7:03 pm
dimwit

Oh, I've got it! What a weird word for a hedge !
7:05 pm
dimwit

And I've got the Tolkien word - thanks !
7:12 pm
Christine

Frankly, my dear dimwit, it was not enough clues... sometimes I'm a little thick. So, I cheated a little (?) and googled a couple of words. I got the 6letter, and there's another, very similar, that's not on the grid... and from your clue I found the 5letter.
So, I've learned another new word, today, andlooked it up, so I'll remember it next time.
Thanks for your help.
As someone said, last week - onwards and sideways.
7:16 pm
dimwit

Glad it helped, I've got some, and it smells very nice... Have you got the 8 letter r word yet ? I have the s 8 now, but cannot get the r, (or the 4 letter n) but I'll keep fiddling with the combinations for a while longer.
7:17 pm
jlm_mi

For the 8 letter R word, start with the 8 letter S word and rearrange a bit.
7:19 pm
Christine

R8 and S8 use the same lettes - think prefix and suffix.
Did you mean you have the Weil perfume? OMGawd, that's the most sensual perfume I know...
7:21 pm
dimwit

Aha, I have the r word, thanks ! No, I meant the n aromatherapy one. Don't know the Weil one actually !
7:28 pm
jlm_mi

Has anyone found more than 4 words containing the X? It keeps calling to me, even though I can't find anymore.
7:31 pm
jlm_mi

Or how about words containing RR? I have 3 that are all related. Any others?
7:33 pm
dimwit

I only have 4, too. I can see loads Welsh words, but they aren't accepted. (sigh)
7:34 pm
dimwit

do you want to check you have the same 4 xs as me ?
7:34 pm
shortseer

I've got five words containing X.
No X starters.
7:35 pm
GeneralVanya

I've got 5 x words, two of which are related...
7:35 pm
jlm_mi

Sure. Mine are all reasonably basic words. I have a 5 for 24, then a 4 for 11 (animal), then another 5 for 24 and its plural, 6 for 39.
7:36 pm
dimwit

Pity it won't take Xena...
7:37 pm
jlm_mi

Yeah, I've tried Xena more than once, LOL.
7:41 pm
parker313

I have those X words (minus the 5 for 24) plus a 5 for 28 to be precise ;)
7:42 pm
dimwit

Ah, I have one you haven't then, I hadn't seen the plural. My other one is , er, mm,
an extra room ? It is an alternative spelling (or American ), as I would spell it with an e on the end.
7:44 pm
jlm_mi

I'll look for the 5/28. Dimwit, your extra room is not 5/24? I have a word that could be defined that way for 5/24. Starts with A.
7:44 pm
dimwit

Whoops - ' just so ' I gave you the clue for the 24 not the 28.
7:45 pm
jlm_mi

Found the 5/28. Can't believe I missed it before!
7:49 pm
dimwit

Well I've managed to crawl over the 1000.
It is 1.45 a.m.here and the cats want their supper, so I'm signing off. Nice talking to you all and good searching.
7:50 pm

Is anyone still on? According to the boggle solver there are 5 words with 7 letters. I have 4 - 36,48,36,28 Anyone have the 5th or one for a different count?

Do you know Tolkein? It's a word for some of the servants of the dark.

what's a "boggle solver"?

There is at least one web site out there where you can put in a grid and it will solve it. It does not use the same dictionary as this game, so it may not be 100% correct, but it's a decent guide.

Anyway, you can choose the minimum number of letters when you solve it, so you can use it to determine the number of words at each letter count. You just have to be careful to not look at the word list when you're looking at the word count at the bottom!

It's usually only off by about 5 or 6 words. ...and you'd know by looking at my scores that I don't use it to get words!

ah...that's what I was wondering--was there a way to get just a word count without a list? I know there are days that I couldn't be trusted not to look at the word list...especially with some of the grids we've had lately. Thanks!

Looks like you and I have the same 7s, either that or the 5th one has the same point value as ones we've already got!

ladybug - There are people who have written solvers that will give the count without the list (or at least in a separate location from the list) but as far as I know they're not web based. And I definitely can't program well enough to make one of my own!

Some of them used to post the stats here, including total word count and points, and the number of words starting with each location in the grid. Unfortunately, haven't seen those kind of stats in a while.

But if you know a good programmer and can call in a favor . . . ;)

Oh, I don't think I'm quite at the programmer stage just yet! However, I really do appreciate it when players post their word/letter counts...sometimes mine almost match! I do find it to be helpful in getting some of the words I've over looked. Thanks for doing that tonight. : )

I can't think tonight! I don't know Tolkien all that well... i read the books a long time ago and have only seen the first movie.

Did someone say the Tolkien word was 6-points?

That helped... duh! Yes it's 6

Does anyone know if that's the full word count??
I've just made it up to 100 and somehow i just can't imagine i've found everything.

Is the Tolkien word a fishy thing? I noodled letters, and got an undefined word -- sounds about right for a fantasy character.

it's a big, brutish thing that makes guttural noises.

76 for 1313 -- I guess that's it for today.... but it was a good grid with lots of (for me ) new words.
Okay, ready for a new grid...

I had that, just didn't know what I had.... Babbling thru' noodling.
