Good morning all.
8:57 am
jlm_mi

Morning!

This puzzle doesn't seem to agree with me for some reason. I feel a bit word-blind. :)
9:01 am
Minski

MEE TOO!
ANY HINTS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
9:02 am
Daisy

There's a suffix that will give you many 7s and 1 9 once you find it.
9:02 am
Swtbtrcup

oh my gosh i found the 9!!!!! a moment of "silence" please
9:03 am
jlm_mi

I did get the 9 earlier, and have 3 7s that have the same suffix. There are more 7s ending with it, then?
9:05 am
Daisy

Actually, I also only have 3 with that one. I thought I had more than that. There's another suffix good for at least 2 more 7s. Have you found that one?
9:11 am
jlm_mi

I found a 4th 7 with the same ending as the 9 and have 1 7 with a different suffix. Probably the one you mean, though. I'll look for others there.

There are supposed to be around 185 words for this puzzle, and my first go-round only netted me 92. I usually see them more easily . . .
9:29 am
allstar

just came back and first word found was the D9. WOW!
9:30 am
Daisy

I've got 5 7s with that ending now.
I think I'm missing a bunch of longer words. when I had 70 I had a lower score than Dani. Now I'm at 90/1221.
9:31 am
jlm_mi

There should be 3x8+ (this includes 9-letter words), 15x7 and 31x6.
9:44 am
parsec

if snafu was a word yesterday, shouldn't lipo be a word today? first go has me stuck at 83 words. I'm taking a break.
10:15 am

How cool, I have jury duty today, and they have wireless internet at the courthouse. Lots of time to find all these words.

whoops, we posted at the same time. time to compare and contrast.
10:47 am
jlm_mi

It's funny how we're so close on word count and points, but vary quite a bit on how many of each letter!

I also have the 9 but no 8s.
10:53 am
fnurt

I find I tend to be bad with the same letters every day. Like A for example.
10:59 am
Daisy

Are you sure there are 2 8s in here? I can't find them anywhere. :( I only have 10 7s so far, so maybe I'll still find them.
11:04 am
jlm_mi

Can't be 100% certain, but that's what the boggle solver says. It's been right on for the last several puzzles, but it could be off by a few words, of any length, in any direction.
11:09 am
fnurt

Ok, jlm's list really helped me. I'm stuck on that 3rd J however.

I've got close to what fnurt has. A few more in some categories: 23xD, 14xR, 13xS and 6xT.
With 129/1758 I still have no 8s.
11:52 am
soho72

I'm close to everyone, but have 9xT. I have no eights yet either.
12:07 pm
jlm_mi

fnurt - we have exactly the same count except for that J word. I'm off to find more based on Wendrie's list. I'm guessing the J you're missing is a 2nd 5 for 24.
12:10 pm
parsec

there are at least 7 As.
12:20 pm
soho72

Drats! I just managed to get to 6xA!
12:25 pm
jlm_mi

Anyone want to compare 7s? In alphabetical order I have:

36
32
48
40
32

plus the 9-84

no 8's yet.
12:28 pm

Thanks soho!
12:30 pm
soho72

jlm_mi, the 40 and the 28 that you're probably missing are spelled the same, with the exception of the first letters.
12:31 pm
parsec

my 7s are 36, 32, 40, 32, 32, 40, 32, 28, 32
12:34 pm
Dani

hi everyone, mornin'
as for 7s, here's my order

36
32
48
32
40
48
32
12:35 pm
jlm_mi

Thanks for the clues soho - off to look for them now.

parsec - that's a lot of differences! Many new words to look for. :)
12:48 pm
parsec

anyone have sevens that don't end in those two suffixes?
12:50 pm
soho72

Which two suffixes? I've used three.
12:51 pm
soho72

I think you guys are missing the -ier.
12:55 pm
jlm_mi

Doh! (hits forehead) As SOON as you posted that suffix, those 2 7s jumped out at me!
12:57 pm
parsec

wait, actually i have three too. nevermind, i'll look some more...
12:58 pm
soho72

Big sigh of relief, huh? LOL! I'm still missing 2x32 between my 2x40.
12:59 pm
jlm_mi

I have one of them, but am missing the other still too.

Think of a carriage driver.
12:59 pm
soho72

three in addition to -ier, parsec?
1:01 pm
soho72

Boy, I'm getting confused. I think the carriage driver one comes after my second 40.
1:02 pm
jlm_mi

Sorry, yes it comes after the 2nd 40. But I have, on my compilation list, that there should be 2 32s between the 2nd and 3rd 40s. Maybe I have something out of place?
1:04 pm
jlm_mi

Soho - The 8 7s that I have now are the same point values, in the same order, as the ones you listed below.

But I think I see the confusion. The 2 32s in parsec's list could come between the first 2 40s and be ones that we don't have at all, or they could be between the 2nd and 3rd 40s, but then there's another 32 later, after the 3rd 40, that we don't have. Not sure which it is.
1:05 pm
soho72

Maybe that's the problem. I don't have 3x40. I only have two.
1:06 pm
soho72

Oh, my Lord, I think I'd better quit while I still have a modicum of sanity!
1:06 pm
parsec

three including -ier, soho. I'm having trouble collating all the lists, too.
1:08 pm
parsec

my second 32 begins with i, does that help organize them?
1:08 pm
soho72

And there are supposed to be seven more? Not from this keyboard!
1:08 pm
soho72

Yes, parsec, it does. Thank you.
1:09 pm
jlm_mi

I only have 2x40 (and right now they are side-by-side in my list, but far enough apart in the alphabet that there could be some between them).

OK, just looked back at the lists, and maybe there aren't 3x40 reported. Man, I need to quit looking at this before I go insane! LOL.
1:09 pm
jlm_mi

Helps loads! Thanks parsec. :)
1:13 pm
soho72

Okay, if this will help us - I have a 40 that begins with F, and a 40 that begins with P.
1:14 pm
jlm_mi

Me too. From that, I think this is the order of the 7s reported so far. If anyone has put them in a different order, please let me know!

36
32
48
40 - f
32 - i (I don't have this one yet)
32 (I don't have this one yet)
40 - p
32
28
48 (I don't have this one yet)
32
1:16 pm
soho72

I have the same eight that you do, and I'm missing the same three.
1:16 pm
Daisy

I go away for awhile, come back and get completely confused! I thought the 7s were in this order:
36
32
48
40
32
32
40
48
32
28
32

I'm missing one of the 32s between the 40s.
1:17 pm
parsec

my 40s are the same.
1:19 pm
jlm_mi

Daisy, that could actually be. That last 48 is from Dani's 12:34 post, and all we know is that it comes between a 40 and 32 near the end. It could come earlier than I listed it.

Do you have most of those words on your posted list so that you're more sure of the order?
1:19 pm
jlm_mi

Actually, given the math involved, it seems more likely that the 48 goes where Daisy had it.
1:20 pm
Daisy

I have all the ones I posted except one 32.
But since there are supposedly 15 7s and I have 10 plus know I'm missing 1, the final order could be quite different.
1:20 pm
jlm_mi

Or maybe not. Too confused here.
1:20 pm
parsec

uh-oh, i have a retraction. the i is my third 32, not my second. Sorry!
1:21 pm
jlm_mi

Daisy - that's good enough for me to start with!
1:26 pm
soho72

The only thing I'm sure of right now is that there's an I for 32.
1:28 pm
Daisy

That's the 7x32 I can't get. Can you give me a hint?
1:29 pm
parsec

the i/7/32 goes with an i/5/10.
1:30 pm
parsec

think about adapting to bad stuff.
1:30 pm
parsec

(now you can help me with the 48. either of them!)
1:31 pm
Daisy

ah! I had the 5, don't know why I didn't see that. especially since I knew the point value. thanks muchly.
1:31 pm
soho72

I would if I could, Daisy, but I don't know what it is - only the first letter.
1:31 pm
Daisy

okay - think about surreys.
1:33 pm
soho72

For the first 48, think about clothing worn by Buffalo Bill.
1:35 pm
soho72

Got the I, parsec - thanks.
1:37 pm
parsec

thanks you two! got one, will keep thinking about surreys...
1:49 pm
jlm_mi

The surreys clue and the buffalo bill clue are for the same word.

The other 48 was in yesterday's puzzle. Took me long enough to see it though!
1:56 pm
parsec

man, am I blind! thanks!
1:58 pm
jlm_mi

And thanks for the clues to the I! I tried that but doubled the 2nd letter earlier, so no dice. I have another 5/10 but could not for the life of me get anything more out of it. Finally stumbled on this one with the adapting clue!!!!
2:01 pm
jlm_mi

OK, just found the other 32, so now I have the same list as Daisy posted earlier for 7s:

36
32
48
40
32
32
40
48
32
28
32

There is a suffix that is not ing, ed or ier.
2:18 pm
Kirsty1

I have three 32's between the first 36 and the 48...
2:18 pm
jlm_mi

Thanks Kirsty!
2:28 pm
jlm_mi

One of the first 3 7s for 32 gives an 8 for 45. It uses a prefix, and no suffix, to make the 7 letter word. The 8 adds a letter at the end to change verb tense. It is not a common word, though its 5 letter base for 12 points (and its plural for 21) are well known if not often used.
2:36 pm
Wendrie

I'm confused on the 7s here is the list I have...

and I still don't have that d - 9 :(

d x 7/36
d x 7/32
e x 7/32
e x 7/32
f x 7/48
i x 7/32
p x 7/40
r x 7/48
2:38 pm
soho72

I think we're in trouble, becaue I just found a third 32 point word, and none of my three fit your description.
2:40 pm
soho72

Wendrie, there is a seven letter T word.
2:40 pm
soho72

I'm apparently missing an E.
2:46 pm
Kirsty1

There are 14 7s. *Kirsty1 saunters off grinning sheepishly* 185/4.95/2634. Phew...
2:50 pm
jlm_mi

The solver says there should be 15 7s, but 185 words total. So, there's a discrepancy in Kirsty's final statistics. Still, very impressive! :-D

Here are my 7s:

36-D
32-D
32-E
32-E (the one I described earlier)
48-F
40-F
32-G
32-I
40-P
48-R
32-R
28-R
32-T
2:56 pm
jlm_mi

Kirsty1 - If you're still around, do you mind sharing how many 8 & 9 letter words you found? Any other hints/stats would be much appreciated as well. ;)
3:09 pm
parsec

i have 30 D's. If there are more I'll eat my hat.
3:14 pm
Daisy

Can someone give a hint for the d and e 32s?
3:16 pm
parsec

the d is a livestock disease. I would not have known this. I found it by taking an emotion and making up plausible suffixes for it.
3:23 pm
parsec

and one e is related to an e4 and e6
3:25 pm
jlm_mi

My 2:28 post is a clue to one of the 7-32-e words. The other 7-32-e is a very common -ing word. Think about the stock market.
3:28 pm
Daisy

Ah - I have the easy e. I didn't notice. I'm still working on your obscure clue!
3:37 pm
parsec

me too. (is pounding head on desk) what's the 5-letter base start with?
3:39 pm
parsec

ooo! nevermind! =)
3:44 pm

off to dinner while ahead. 134/4.79/1959. g'luck!

It starts with a 4 letter word for 8 points.

I think we get used to trying to find the obscure words and become blind to the 'obvious'! I didn't find that J until a little bit ago but had some weird ones! ;-)
