i think the doctor wasnt happy with how little the steroid helped...she was iffy about giving it to him in the first place with him being so young, but since he got it twice in a month, she went with it

as for the neb, he HATES the mask, so we dont use it. instead, we hold it in front of his face...
so its not AS effective as it could be, but i do think its been helping.

his daytime cough is mostly gone + the chest rattle is greatly diminished, so hes definitely improving there.

hes also had a different nighttime cough that the doc said is more of a spastic cough. poor guy sounds like he just cant catch his breath. (doc likened it to croup, but he doesnt have the croup virus)

Studies have shown that steroids and albuterol do not help with RSV bronchiolitis BUT they do help with asthma, so I suspect the doc was wondering if this second episode of wheezing is a clue that K has asthma. If these meds are not helping then he has typical bronchiolitis and will just get better in 3 weeks.

Bronchiolitis is very frustrating for all involved--little ones, parents, and docs. There is no treatment and it takes about 3 weeks to resolve. Parents and kids get exhausted. Hospital treatment is just oxygen and IV fluid. Then a ventilator for the severe cases.

they almost sent us to the ER for chest x-rays, but i pushed back...
i knew their concern was possibly pneumonia, but she had already ruled that out since he didnt have a fever.
(i dont mind getting xrays if theyre needed, but not for something shes already ruled against!)
