I'm here!
Just getting started.
Anything good to share???
8:39 am
Minski

The Lone Ranger would be upset. It seems that Tonto isn't a word.
8:43 am
Atalante

erm .... 2 8s, a very sticky 7 and a penguin LOL
And a good few 7s I haven't got yet!
10:24 am

Stats:

One solver says 149, the other says 150 (and is probably right).

Counts:
10xB
6xE
19xF
19xG
13xN
6xO
27xR
15xS
33xT
1xU

5x8, 8x7, 31x6, 40x5, 65x4
The letter and length stats are based on 149 words, so there is one more word that I don't know where it goes.

The 7s I've found so far are:

40,40,32,28,28
10:27 am
jlm_mi

For this puzzle I also have words per starting location. The way this works is that, starting in the upper left and working left to right then top to bottom, the first letter that can be used to make a word gets the point if there are two possible ways to make the word.

6 19 3 4 2
10 1 18 9 1
4 2 1 24 0
10 6 0 0 1
0 11 0 15 1

fnurt

I have 8's for 55 & 40 and 7's for 40,40,32,28,44,28,28.
10:58 am
boatierra

Tonto happens to be a word in Espanol. It means stupid. Pretty insulting name for the Lone Ranger's sidekick, I always thought.
11:15 am
boatierra

Oh sure. I learn a new word with my crossword puzzles last week. A really great four letter E word. Etui, a, "small, usually ornamental case for holding articles such as needles." And Babble won't accept it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
11:16 am
boatierra

Eating my words. That's because 'etui' doesn't exist in the puzzle....
11:30 am
Atalante

Very Tolkien-y today - Bree, Beor and Beorn :)
11:38 am
jlm_mi

And don't forget ent, even though it's only 3 letters. :)
11:57 am
Christine

'morning, Judith and Marianne -- are you working together, against me??
You know the rules - the Big Sistah MUST be the winner.
You had a good score, yesterday.
Now, separate games, right now!

Has this dictionary never heard of tetse flies ? hmph! One of those LOTR words is accepted though....
12:03 pm
jlm_mi

They're tsetse flies. :)
12:05 pm
boatierra

That's because its spelled 'tsetse.' Bummer, that would have been a good word.
12:09 pm
Atalante

Ents don't count :P they're in *every* puzzle
12:10 pm
jlm_mi

True, but they're VERY cool. Maybe they're in every puzzle because it takes them sooooo long to get anywhere, they're still around.
12:12 pm
dimwit

nor will it take 'gorn' - good cockney word that - but I've not gorn off this puzzle yet (teehee)
12:17 pm
jlm_mi

If making friends with someone is befriending them, shouldn't you be able to make enemies with, or "befoe" someone? ;)
12:19 pm
dimwit

quite right, invent one immediately
12:23 pm
Kirsty1

Has anybody else found a really odd five letter word ending in F that does not appear at www.dictionary.com? I found it by accidentally adding an f to another word!!! I'd love to know what it means....
12:29 pm
jlm_mi

Well, I didn't have it. But after methodically going through my list and adding F to all my 4-letter words I found it. :)

One definition I found is that it is Yiddish for thief.
12:29 pm
jlm_mi

And thank you! That was the last word I needed with that starting letter. :-D
1:21 pm
jlm_mi

Has anyone found any 8s besides the 55 and 40?
1:46 pm
claws

I have 5 8's. 3 are for 55, 2 are for 40 pts.
1:48 pm
setting_sun

I've got 2 8's for 40. One of them needs a suffix added on to a 5 for 10, whilst the other is part of a 6, 6, 7, 8 run that comes from a 4 for 7.
2:23 pm

2:55 pm
fnurt

I have an 8 for 55 that starts with F. Any clues on the others?
2:58 pm
jlm_mi

fnurt - My 8/55 that starts with F is an odd word relating to a body part. I would not be surprised if all 3 start with F, but maybe not. Does that sound like yours?
2:59 pm
jlm_mi

Oh, and claws or anyone else, would you mind putting the point values for the 8s in alphabetical order for us? And the 7s if you have them. :-D
3:06 pm
Atalante

One of the 8 / 55 starts with E
3:06 pm
jlm_mi

OK, just found the second 8/55. It is only 1 letter different from the first one I found, and this word is much more common.
3:14 pm
fnurt

The E-55 comes from a 6 for 27.
3:15 pm
jlm_mi

Thank you - very helpful!
3:17 pm
jlm_mi

setting_sun - I think your 8/40 must come from a 6/6/7/8 combo that starts with a 4 for 4, or it can't make a 40 pointer. :)

I have that one. Anyone care to share what the other 8/40 starts with, or a hint to its meaning? I don't think I have the right root 5 letter word yet.
3:24 pm
Karin

Thanx for that got that 8 too .
3:35 pm
runningforhome

I have an eight for forty that comes from a four for four, but I can only get one six out of it...
3:36 pm
jlm_mi

The other 6 adds a prefix rather than a suffix.
3:37 pm
Treble99

I ave E for 55 and F for 55 any clues for the other one.
3:37 pm
runningforhome

Ah, thanks, jlm. Got it.
3:37 pm

Treble99 - See my 3:06pm post.
3:39 pm
Karin

The other 8/40 should sound very loud but it`s not .
3:43 pm
jlm_mi

Oooh - should have seen that earlier. If you know French, it may make you drool. :) Makes me want a nutella crepe!!!!
3:45 pm
Karin

The 8`s are; 8/55, 8/55 .8/55 , 8/40 , 8/40.
3:47 pm
setting_sun

jlm_mi - my mistake! Sorry for any confusion!
3:48 pm

No problem! The confusion was only momentary, at least for me. LOL.

5:56 pm
dimwit

6:11 pm
runningforhome

runningforhome

dimwit - the e-8 is the first of the Es.
6:16 pm
dimwit

ooh other babblers (dances excitedly) would it be ef or en to begin then please?
rfh - the n 8 is a fancy nutty sweet of some kind.
6:17 pm
fnurt

There is an E before the 8, unless I misunderstood you.
6:19 pm
runningforhome

Thank you fnurt - you're right, I'm still missing one e.
6:20 pm
Treble99

en to start with
6:24 pm
dimwit

Lovely, have all the 8s now, thanks.
One more e to find then on to the next letter ( I'm trying to be systematic for once...)
6:32 pm

6:43 pm
dimwit

How many letters is the first e ? no success with combos so far.
6:50 pm
MammaJill

7:50 pm

runningforhome, does the n/8 start with not?
7:53 pm

Nope... Karin's clue should give you a good idea of what it starts with.
7:55 pm
periwinkle

Karen's clue is not helping me. I will keep trying tho.
7:57 pm
periwinkle

May I please have a clue for the e/8/55. I know it starts with en but I am having trouble finding the word. :(

8:13 pm

8:17 pm
periwinkle

8:17 pm

8:19 pm

Thank you so much!!! :)
8:19 pm

9:57 pm
dimwit

Back for a last go at that first e, I reckoned the second letter must be e or i, but cannot get any combos to work. Any clues for its meaning please ? It is the first in the list and 5 letters.
10:20 pm
MammaJill

it is a bird
10:27 pm
dimwit

11:55 pm
Christine

Thanks to whoever gave the penguin clue -- set me to reading about the cute little critters...and the lower extremities (not toes) gave me a v.e.r.y odd word (no definition, but that gave me the word the rest of you have) taa=daa
