bigbirdboss, are you still here? What does your 9 start with, please?
6:50 am

The 9 starts with S
7:20 am
fit1

Bingo. I am "dancing" all around the room. I found the s9
7:29 am
jlm_mi

OK, I have some stats. This puzzle scares me with at least 45 A words! :-o

There are 378 words and I have lengths/starting letters for 372 of them:

7x8+
21x7
60x6
118x5
166x4

45xA

good morning jlm. Those esses are amazing. I have been "essing" all morning. :) Thanks for the stats

Atalante

Oh my ..... 378 words *falls over*
8:39 am
Atalante

Only 40 more Ss to find *gulp*
9:01 am
jlm_mi

That 9 is beautiful! And worth a lot more points with all the smaller words that go with it. :)
9:01 am
claws

26 a's so far. I have decided to conquer the a's before I proceed any further.
9:02 am
jlm_mi

I'm impressed claws! Only 16 A words here. I can't believe there are 45. :-o
9:03 am

9:29 am

Ooh, a beautiful (though bad smelling) A8/70!
9:32 am
jlm_mi

There is also an A/8/60 (that doesn't stink - it's a verb form) and I don't think the S/8/60 has been mentioned either. Both the A and the S 8/60 start from 5 letter words and add a suffix.
9:36 am
jlm_mi

Yay, I finished a letter! It's only Ws, but it's good to have one out of the way. :)

I don't think anyone's mentioned an i7/8 combo that I learned here a few months ago.
From what I've gleaned so far, we have:
A8-60
A8-70
i8-55
S8-60
S9-96
10:01 am
jlm_mi

Krys - It's my favorite color too! Everyone always thinks I'm weird, but poo on them. :-D

Well, I finally have all the A's. Dang, they were a little tough today!

Now, on to the rest of the puzzle!
10:46 am

well that only took hours.

I seem to have 47xA. At this rate, I can be up to G by the end of the day!

10:52 am

Right, got the 9 now. Thanks.
11:09 am
Minski

Could someone provide some hints for the 9 and the 8s?
Thank you muchly.
11:31 am
claws

The nine is similar to skipping, but you always keep the same foot in the lead. It is the act of doing this thing.

Ballarinas and gymansts often do this in their dances/routines. It's a very common move.
11:36 am
jlm_mi

So far I have 17 N words. With the 2 additional A words that parsec found, that leaves one starting letter still unknown.
11:36 am
Swtbtrcup

This might not be politically correct but... as a hint for the s9... something that a very feminine person would do... such as across a stage...
11:37 am
Swtbtrcup

could i get a hint for the i8 please
11:43 am
jlm_mi

I'll provide a listing of the 7s and 8/9s I have so far, but I'm still missing several. Please feel free to add on.

8-60 A - a chemical word, to determine components of a substance
8-70 A - something your 4th grader might make of clay in art class. :-D
8-55 i - buries
9-96 S - to walk in a particular manner
8-60 S - not keeping to the set course

7-28 A - an avenging deity (or professor moody)
7-52 A - singular of 8/70
7-40 H - hurries
7-56 H - multiple mowings of long grass
7-40 i - bury
7-32 L - renting
7-28 R - pan for cooking large cuts of beef
7-52 S - related to 9/S
7-44 S - quotes
7-44 S - not leaving
7-40 S - tales (British spelling)
7-32 S - odd
7-32 T - a fruit
7-40 W - to engage in horseplay

7-40 S - tales (British spelling)

Oh no ..... not right ;) Floors of a building maybe :)
12:43 pm
jlm_mi

You're right. It's a variant of ***** according to dictionary.com and I didn't look at which particular definition. I just guessed it could go to either. Thanks for catching it!
12:46 pm
testing123

It helped me anyway. :)
12:46 pm

I am pleased to announce that there are 34 H words.
12:47 pm

283 words 4.87 4069

I have all the A's, E's, T's W's Y's, I think, and about 28 S's to go, then to finish all the others
1:06 pm
testing123

Could someone help me along with that W7? I think I have tried everything, but no 7. The horseplay clue is above me.
1:10 pm
parsec

testing123--think about how a cowboy might describe it
1:15 pm
testing123

Should I take that horseplay literally or more like fooling around?
1:16 pm
jlm_mi

fooling around
1:24 pm
Treble99

Is the S8/60 related to the S9/96 does anyone know
1:27 pm
fit1

Treble. I have all parts of the s9, and I don't see any s8 60 with it
1:30 pm
Krys10

The horseplay word is a slang spelling of a word. Western-ish. i thought of it but didn't put it in at first because I thought it wasn't a "real" word.
1:30 pm
fixitfmly

Treble99 --
No they're different -- using JLMs definitions I would say the manner in which one walks is not the same way one wanders from the set course.
HTH! ;-)
1:31 pm
Treble99

Im having trouble finding it
1:31 pm
testing123

The s8/60 has nothing to do with the s9.
1:35 pm
parsec

This is the most exhausting grid I've ever done!

and the root of the S 8 60 is often used in reference to animals.
1:41 pm
testing123

This W7 is driving me crazy! It is either a word I have never even heard of, or I am being extremely thick.
Is it common?
1:41 pm
jlm_mi

Think of a men's sport and say it with a cowboy twang.
1:43 pm
Atalante

testing - I just can't see it either
1:45 pm
periwinkle

I am having trouble with it too. I think of have the right sport but cannot seem to spell it with a cowboy twang that Babble will accept.
1:45 pm
parsec

It rhymes with an h/6/27...
1:46 pm
bumblebee

The W7 is an odd spelling of a sport.
1:46 pm
Atalante

ohhhhhh got it! Its also a 6 letter fish with an extra letter added in, if thats any help
1:50 pm
Treble99

Does the 9/96 have anything to do with the SL5/16
1:51 pm
testing123

No, it starts with an S4/7.
1:53 pm
testing123

There IS only one W in this grid, is there? The one in the corner down right? ;)
1:54 pm
jlm_mi

The 7 does not have the same 2nd letter as all your other W words.
1:55 pm

jlm_mi, Is the 2nd letter of this elusive W word an R?

It doesn't end in N.
I had the right sport in mind, but my mistake was I forgot this grid has a left side too, I only searched up.
2:06 pm
testing123

There is an A7/40 as well, related to the A8/60.
2:08 pm
testing123

The A7 is the one doing the A8.
2:09 pm
jlm_mi

Thanks! There is also a G/744 meaning "related to the jaw".
2:09 pm
periwinkle

Would anyone please tell me what the W word ends in. I am getting a headache looking for it. I know I am on the right track.
2:10 pm

Well if it makes everyone feel better, I can't find the a60. What do I know about animal walks LOL
2:10 pm
stevedallas

ends in an e periwinkle
2:11 pm
jlm_mi

The 8/S/60 is not really related to walks. You could do it while walking, or driving, etc. The root word is used to describe some animals, but not how they walk.
2:11 pm
fit1

oops, I meant the s60
2:11 pm
jlm_mi

Oh, sorry, you said the A60? That has absolutely nothing to do with walking. See my 11:43AM post.
2:12 pm
periwinkle

THANK YOU everyone, finally got that stupid W word.
2:13 pm
periwinkle

I don't have the a60 either.
2:15 pm
jlm_mi

There is an S/7/28 that is a particular type of unsaturated alcohol.
2:16 pm
testing123

The A60 is an S6/30 with two letters added at the start.
2:18 pm
testing123

And a T7/44, related to the word for a city in India.
2:20 pm
jlm_mi

By definition that T/7/44 is the land held by a ***** (a T5/16).
2:21 pm
testing123

That is much better than my clue! Thanks, jlm_mi.
2:29 pm
testing123

Hey - another S7/44! Found it the most stupid way, by mistyping another guess. No idea what it means. No definition either. Sounds a little like a small, british weapon used in WWII.
3:10 pm

oh come on! on an urban note, let's allow thang. :D
3:13 pm

Anybody mention the L 8 60 yet? Old word for long ago.
3:15 pm
jlm_mi

No, and I've been searching for one last L. Hopefully this will help me find it! :)
3:21 pm
jlm_mi

Oooh - found it! I thought it was two words, though. Learn something new every day. :)
3:43 pm
jlm_mi

OK, I'm sure I'm not the only one who still has many S words to find. I'm interested in comparing, but for that many words don't want to break it down too far. So, this is what I have:

3:47 pm

What SA60? There is an 8/A/60 and an 8/S/60. But the 8/S/60 is not an SA word.
4:09 pm
parsec

22 Sas, and it's time for me to head out.

I feel bad about the tiger clue, it's really pretty misleading since only the middle of the word is the same, just can't think of anything better. good luck everyone!

the tiger clue helped me get it, parsec!

It helped me too! I was trying to end it with L for a while after the tiger clue, but finally moved on and voila. :) Thanks!
4:12 pm

Oh, and apparently the actual definition is that it's a British word meaning drink or cocktail. Is that true, Brits?
