Friends of ours just retired to Squiem, Washington, which is right by Port Townsend. BUT ... it's in a rain shadow, so gets less rain each year than anywhere on the peninsula. Quite a pretty town too.

you mean your rating? your points are collected and compared to other players - you gain points, your rating (usually) goes up, if you lose points, rating goes down. probably some complicated algorithm

the site says: The ratings in Serpentine are a determination of your skill level as a player. When you first start playing, everyone gets ten unrated games to practice, then Serpentine will estimate what it thinks your skill level is, and put you in the appropriate rating group.

You get 1 point for each three letter word

yeah, I read that, but I see my score after a round and then my ratings points in parentheses. sometimes I lose more points than someone with a lower score.

I think it may have to do with that sliding scale underneath the word box. it appears the longer I wait between the more that goes negative.

yeah, that's how it works - if a higher ranked player and a lower ranked player end up with the same number of points, the higher ranked player will generally lose more points (because the game 'recognizes' that it might have been more difficult for the lower ranked player to achieve that many points
