A dear friend of ours who is self employed (cleans houses) and works part-time as a waitress at our favorite breakfast joint on the weekends was suddenly plunged into unemployment when this all hit. Plus, she is bi-polar. So, you can imagine the depression that hit her. We have been dropping off little meaningful somethings to her here and there. I think it was because one year my parents put my Easter basket in my bedroom the night before. I woke up really early and the night light was casting a shadow from the stuffed rabbit in the basket onto my wall. There was a large, scary rabbit shadow looming next to my bed. Still gives me shivers.

i was touched to my core recently. visiting my friend in Queensland and her son, partner and their 6 kids had moved into tents in her back yard. they had lost their house during the floods up north. thos kids were so love-deprived. not through the fault of the parents. just the sheer numbers .
