But if we admitted that they provide almost no protection for the wearers, people wouldn't wear them just to protect others. I still have my stash of disposable masks back from when I was visiting Hong Kong during the SARS epidemic. Even though they are supposed to be disposable, you can reuse them as long as they aren't soiled, as long as you leave them alone to decontaminate themselves for a few days. I rummaged around in the closet and found we had six of them--so I gifted two of them to our next door neighbor, who goes out to the shops occasionally.
