I have just been for a walk with a scarf over my face and had to cross the road several times to avoid walking past people. It wasn't an enjoyable experience. hydra--in PA we are expected to cover our faces but not with a medical mask (no surgical masks or N95s). homemade masks, scarves are fine, and save the medical ones for health care professionals.

My friend asked "why do people wear masks in the car when they're by themselves?" and I said it was because I want to wear it getting from my front door to the car, but touching the mask while wearing it is a contamination risk as is taking it off in between uses. The idea is to keep a separation between the side facing your mouth and the side facing the world.

Personally I wish more people were adhering to the mask policy. Even though it's mandatory in my state I still see people without masks or wearing them improperly (around the chin, over the head) and it makes my partner not want to leave the house at all--too many people not being careful with masks or distance. She has asthma, so we're being careful.
