As for lone drivers, besides Lyft or uber, for some people it's simpler to put the mask on as you leave home so you don't have to think about it. Also... taking them on and off a bunch means possible exposure moments, so in theory you leave them on til you get home/work and can stay de-masked

You're absolutely right, Molly. I'm just saying that we can't know whether the outside of our mask has picked up anything, like maybe if I touched a door handle and then took my mask off. It's easy to touch the inside of the mask and then it's contaminated too. I came to understand that after watching a couple of videos where they used infrared (I think) that makes the germs visible. Changed my thinking!

This is how I feel about COVID germs. We're surrounded by germs of all types, some more threatening to our lives than others. I don't think I'm being unreasonable. I'm tempted to turn that around and say if that's how *you* feel about germs, don't ever bother washing your hands or deep-cleaning your kitchen. Until more is known about how (and whether) we develop immunity to this particular germ, I believe masks and distancing give us a way to be reasonably safe.

Molly, I concur with your assessment. Too many employers no longer provide sick leave and one has to be with them for a year before getting vacation time. I'm fortunate in that my job, while considered essential, can be done from home. This is the 1st company since 1995 that I've worked for that has actual sick leave accrual. Our customer sent us all home (to work from) mid March. At the beginning of May they had an all hands meeting for supervisors who relayed we'd be going back in 3 phases, mgr/supervisors, those (considered) not at risk, then those at risk or with dependents at risk (caregivers). We are supposed to wear masks in public areas or if in a cubicle with someone who is closer than 6'. If closer, it's possible that we'll change up port/stbd working days (trade out days, one from home, next from office or one week at office, one week at home)… no word as of yet, lol.

most of them get out of providing by having temporary employees and part timers. DC passed a law local known as the McDonalds law that requires paid sick leave for temporary and part time workers 60 days after hire with the days being credited from the first work day. (so you get your sick leave based on hos much you worked those 60 days) It doesn't cover everyone but it was surprising how many people it covered.

Molly, I suspect the fear is because there is so much that seems out of our control in this pandemic. Personally, I'm not afraid--I'm in a high risk category due to age, and my husband is in a super-high-risk category due to being in his mid-70's with an auto-immune condition. So we are taking extreme precautions, and that keeps us safe, but being cooped up away from family and friends is difficult, and with my job in question, there are financial stresses. So, all of these stresses that we all have come out in our reactions--some in denial, some being terrorized, etc. And me, I'm spending time in Babble that I hadn't done in years...so I guess that's my accommodation!
