That could be true too, hurshy. In fact, I know she is struggling with the generalized anxiety and situational depression we are all dealing with now. She's pretty social, has a circle of very close friends and a much wider circle of friends. She runs a performing arts school with staff (all online right now), and is a professional events planner. So COVID has really dented her usual outlets.

I know! I created a poster for my community's discussion board that had historical photos and flyers from different epidemics in U.S. history, including yellow fever, influenza, polio, etc. It showed how cities quarantined, mask wearing, schools and business closed, etc was nothing new. my theory is that western white people... haven't lost big in centuries, and we don't have a cultural sense that it's possible for things to go really pear-shaped. i think we look at certain historical outcomes and there's a sense of "well, the nazis were beaten in the end," and we assume that basically the worst can't or won't happen. whereas native americans... they know that it's possible to have a positive mindset and yet have the world to go utterly mad and wipe out a huge percentage of your people. a post-apocalyptic world is essentially their reality, not just scary fiction.

If talk therapy isn't effective, try EMDR and/or experiential and/or inpatient and/or 12 step and/or good diet and exercise and/or strengthening your spiritual life. I've used (and use) them all.
