I think it is unfortunate that with the economic necessity for most parents to need 2 incomes, today's kids are not receiving the "hands on" parenting of previous generations. Attitudes are learned at a very early age and hard to get rid of -- racism being a prime example.

I grew up in a small town where your school is an ethnic melting pot and your friends come from all different backgrounds. I guess that is why I am so shocked at the racist violence we see today. Ah. This conversation brings me out of lurking. My husband is just home from a month in the hospital with COVID. Because he has leukemia, the vaccines were ineffective. He has had monoclonal antibodies and will receive an COVID antigen shot next week. We are very much aware that people die all the time, but this is not the way he wants to die. We are NOT in a constant state of fear, but we're being cautious because of his immune system--and diligent.
