As for the diecast: try another spelling for 'citizen eligible to sit as a judge' (ancient Athens, for the classical linguists among us).

Darn.. I knew I shouldn't get back to this bloody game.... now, I have C7/8/8 combo and another C7/56, which is probably the one that has the 8-10 combo... if only I could see it.

12:28 pm

ruth - You're completely giving away words. Those aren't clues. They're just spelling the word out completely. Kind of spoils the puzzle . . .
12:38 pm
testing

tedybeth said D/7/36. Are you sure? I don't think you can make one with this puzzle. Since the D is 2 points, the word would need to have the D + 5 1-point letters + another 2-point letter. There isn't another 2-pointer. Have I just done my math wrong?
12:48 pm
Christine

Ruth... you're too much... such a very subtle clue....
Testing... hit HIDE LOG, but you'll miss the fun clues.
12:49 pm
testing

Christine - I always start the puzzle with the log hidden and see what I can find, then I like to look through the log for clues, particularly just the points/starting letters of the big words. Reasonable clues are fun at that point, but . . .
12:51 pm
ruth

sorry if i made it to easy but i couldnt think of any other way next time ile make things a lot harder
12:54 pm
testing

Ruth - a couple of hints for hints:

1) hints to the meaning of a word are more subtle than hints to how to spell it. People can do a dictionary search, or just know the word, but they have to have some word knowledge to find it.

2) If you must give a clue to how a word is spelled, be more subtle. ;) For example, your clue could be made a bit more challenging like this:

"Take the beginning of a farm bird, add a legendary monster and make it plural."

This still nearly gives it away, but does at least require some thought.

And your earlier clue about diecast is truly not a clue. It's actually the word exactly as it is in the puzzle. Best to skip that kind of clue altogether.
12:59 pm
tedybeth

oops - I must have typo-d : I have 2 x D7/32; and one D7/40 Sorry for those who have searched by not found!
1:01 pm

okay testing i no what you mean, can you explain how people get these word searchs to look for themselves what site would i need to go to
1:03 pm
tedybeth

testing: I do have 2 x s7/36 - maybe that's where I goofed and mistakenly typed a 'd'. Sorry :-(
1:03 pm
Christine

Aw, Testing... I guess I shouln't butt in...
I copy the grid to a sheet of paper, and enter my wordlist before I go to sleep. In the morning I check the clues for the 50% I didn't find on my own.

www.onelook.com is a good dictionary site.

Isn't dessicant a word????? It actually only shows up in one of the online dictionaries, but I know I've seen silica gel called a dessicant before. Hmmmph. Another real word unknown to babble, and then today's C10 is there. Sigh.
1:45 pm

testing, it need two C's for Desiccant according to wordfinder

Actually, a funny clue would be a description of food put into a container with a desiccant. :)

2:05 pm

Lol, I just found it. Clever hint there. C.x
2:05 pm
testing

Sorry, confusing clue! Not a clue that you would put in with a desiccant, but the effect that a desiccant would have on a food that shouldn't have been put in there in the first place, such as bread. I guess it's a better clue after you know the word, LOL!
2:08 pm
baggo

great clue
2:10 pm
carolecs

I had already cracked it with your hint, we were typing at the same time. There must be quite a time delay here between typing and others seeing the posting.
2:13 pm
testing

I think the only time delay is however long it takes someone to refresh their screen (either manually or by typing in a word). When you type a post I don't see it right away - only after my screen refreshes for some reason.

But in this case, since we were posting at exactly the same time, I'm not sure it would have made a difference anyway.

Ooooh, that's obviously why some of the words are spelled wrong then!!! Lol.
2:55 pm

LOL! We get both American and British spellings in here I think. I know I've been stumped not finding very British words (or spellings) and someone from over yonder will give clues to it, and then it becomes so obvious. :)
