sprite

Make that P7/36 x 3
1:33 am
demerzel

from the rules: "* The "Qu" cube counts as two letters."

What does that mean?
1:35 am
sprite

It means that if there is a Q in the grid, it is Qu on one square and it counts as two letters. So 'quasi' takes up 4 squares in the grid, but is a 5-letter word.
1:37 am
calvin

what's p8/50, c7/48 etc?
1:38 am
sprite

P8/50 means there is a word in the grid, beginning with P, 8 letters long and worth 50 points.
1:39 am
demerzel

calvin: those are clues, p8/50 means there is a 8 letter word starting with p worth 50 points somewhere.
1:46 am
calvin

oh my! gosh i suck...

yeah :)
what does the "x 3" in P8/50 x 3 mean?
2:02 am
sprite

Enjoy yourself! The 'x3' means there are 3 words, starting P etc.
2:02 am
darren

the 'x3' means there are three distinct words that are 'p8/50'

Hi,
this is my first time as well.
Not easy to find these long words, especially since English is not my mother tongue...
Greetings from Jerusalem, Israel.
2:11 am
sprite

Welcome, Pessach and Calvin. Be warned, this can be a very addictive game ;)
English isn't my native tongue either, I am from Holland. Good luck babbling!
2:15 am
Pessach

Thanks Sprite.
The highest score I have untill now:
h6/27

best to keep in mind that english borrows heavily from other languages, such as 2 x c5/14's. ladies belt (greek), and wicker glove (spanish). And then htere are the ones we cannot even find a definition of. Oh, and the Acronyms........
2:17 am
sprite

Guess stats won't hurt for this one.

8 x 7
7 x 24
6 x 35
5 x 61
4 x 72

I don't see any R's Sprite :-(
Any clues?
3:40 am
beepbeep

Got the H9 / 84 - woot!
3:48 am
Technium

I'm not convinced that P8/50 should be in there - its a proper noun for sure... Its 'singular' P7/36 isn't even a word!
4:34 am
nicole

beepbeep - any chance of a clue for the H9 / 84?
4:45 am
darren

technium: the R is used in a T4/7
5:16 am
carolecs

H/9 84, holding back, not quite sure about something.
5:18 am
Pessach

R is also used in T5/16
5:18 am
Technium

Wow, okay - that's obscure, but I got it.

H9/84 is the noun of something most people do before jumping out of a plane for the first time...
5:52 am
Pessach

Untill now, I have 37 words and 548 points. Well, it's my first time...
5:55 am
beepbeep

Sorry nicole, I had to go and do some work! Did you get the H9 / 84 from the others' clues?
6:09 am
nicole

beepbeep - yes i did thanks
6:21 am
nicole

anyone know all 7 y words?
so far I have y4/7, y5/16 x2, and y6/27
What am I missing?
6:29 am
beepbeep

I have two Y4 / 7
6:37 am
fit1

Shalom, Pessach, and welcome :)
6:41 am
Jen

Morning everyone! I see I am quite behind already! :)
6:44 am
nicole

Jen - you're only behind because for some of us it's the afternoon already :-)
7:07 am
Simey

What's wrong with those who receive oil on the forehead and the plural which would be a9/60??
7:08 am
Simey

Stupid puzzle. Stopping me working AND refusing my best shots!
7:38 am
Pessach

Hi fit1! Where are you babbling from?
7:46 am
Simey

Hmph, now it won't let me have annisette. Grrr....
7:49 am
nicole

simey - i definitely agree with you about the oil on the forehead, but I think that Anisette is only a name - is it a word too?
7:54 am
Simey

Hi Nicole, I think it is a french drink, possibly a brand name I suppose.
7:55 am
nicole

Simey - you spelled it wrong - fix the spelling and it will be accepted :-)
7:55 am
Uneaixoise

anisette with one "N" is a drink
7:56 am
mzhokie

there are 2 y4/7, 3 y5/16 and 2 y6/27
7:58 am
Simey

sorry all, me and my big mouth.

i just got to work and everyone is already deep into the game! ;)
8:04 am
EvaNadine

missing one P, i have:
P4x1
P5x5
P6x2
P7x3
P8x3
8:38 am
Judi

Speaking of things to drink, it won't accept "chai".
8:39 am
Uneaixoise

evanadine, i've got the same "p"s as you--figured out the last one yet?
8:40 am
Uneaixoise

and i still think it's ridiculous that it'll accept "techie" but not "tech"!
8:43 am
jylcat

it won't accept "teste" either (singular of testes)
8:47 am
duke816

probably because they're meant to be a pair!! ;-)
8:48 am
lianakate

hi..am going nuts with this game!! Are you supposed to use a dictionary?..I spend an hour and then quit! Its not easy being blonde, AND Polish!!~!!!
8:50 am
Uneaixoise

yes, for example dictionary.com, a2zwordfinder.com, morewords.com, onelook.com, etc.
8:55 am
lianakate

arghhhhh! (anguished cry)..my hour is up and I only found 74 words...
8:55 am
Craig

I thought you all were just mensas with those perfect scores!

9:01 am
ryser2k

yeah this game is significantly easier with oneword.com and the stats list... it's almost not worth playing...
9:03 am
Gail

Using word finds or dictionaries isn't cheating, any more than using a crossword dictionary when working the New York Times crossward is. It's not like we're playing for prizes or anything. And the ranking system on the game is totally inaccurate if you are playing for rank. It's just fun to do and always good to improve your vcabulary and wast a bit of time at work. Just have some fun and meet some nice people here.
9:05 am
Gail

That should have been "waste a bit of time at work"

That's how you find more words in this game - by misspelling them!
9:05 am
Jen

WOW! morewords.com is my new best friend...
9:07 am
Uneaixoise

thanks, Gail--i agree--and i think most of us get a significant portion of the puzzle on our own and use the helps after that . . .
9:07 am
Goose

hey ya'll, just got on. z's..what r ya gonna do with them? :)
9:07 am
Burnout897

Using a crossword dictionary for the NY Times puzzle is cheating also, maybe you should try the local metro puzzle instead.
9:08 am
Judi

Did someone say there was an A9 that was a plural of A7-28? That does not compute, Dr. Smith.
9:10 am
Gail

There is only one 9 letter word and it starts with H, from what I have seen.
9:11 am
Uneaixoise

according the posted stats, the only 9 would have to be the "H"
9:11 am
Judi

That's what I thought, as long as the stats posted are reliable.
9:26 am
Craig

Who post the stats? I see Sprite did earlier. Can we get a re-post so we don't have to scroll down so far?

Dr_God

I'm just letting you guys know that I'm putting on my construction hat today and doing work on how the High Scores list is displayed. Before the influx of new Babblers this week, the High Score list used to take a long time to display, but now it takes a loooooooong time. I'm actually starting to hear soft whimpers and moaning coming from the Babble server every time someone views a previous day's puzzle.

So to alleviate things a little, I'm working on a fix that should fix the High Scores list so it displays instantly from now on.

So if there is some minor goofiness with the site in a little while, bear with me, I'll have it ironed out soon enough.
9:36 am
EvaNadine

thanks for the heads-up dr_god :)

i have seen puzzles as short as 30 and as long as over 400 words.

usually someone will run the puzzle through a "solver" to get the stats for each day and post them for everyone to see.
then players will post clues to the longer words as they find them.
