Our council just cares that the child has a spiritual foundation. Midtown Memphis is a very diverse area and some children practice very secular religions or philosophies (we have a taoist child in our group, makes for very interesting discussions about why not to do things).

Hey, jocate's a word, right? It's when you look for someone with a laughing attitude...

Hi all - Its good to see that the Girl Guide & Scout movement is thriving. I run Rainbow Guide 5-7yrs and assist at a Brownie Guide unit here in Wales UK. We did finish for the summer and I've spent the last two evenings planning the next terms programme.

Jera,Yes Rainbows are 5-7yrs, brownies 7-10 and Guides 10 - 26(inc rangers). I do r/bows & brownies and my daughter (26) runs a Guide and Ranger unit.
8:37 am
Jera
Sprite really wants me to lead her troop, but it seems Brownies leaders are more needed. I found an excellent Junior troop for her, talking with other leaders last night. The tiny one she was in last year (moving mid-term stinks!), disbanded, everyone either lost interest or moved.
8:38 am
Jera
We are coming up on 100 years of Girl Scouting, which should be really awesome, Nations's Capital does some great stuff!
8:44 am
snowyowl
The 10 - 14 age group here finds it the hardest to keep girls and leaders. We find we get large units of 20 girls plus or tiny ones. The youngest girls are a joy and I have a theory that Guide Guiders are born not made as they have the most difficult job, keeping teenagers happy and motivated.
8:48 am
Jera
It's the same way here. ITA about Leaders/Guiders. It's a calling like the clergy! Someone was joking last night about the tag phrase to recruit Leaders... it's only an hour a week (what a crock). My response... not if you do it right!
8:52 am
snowyowl
Its nice to know that the time joke is global! My usual recruiting strategy is to invite a unit helper (non uniform) in and after 6 weeks I just slip in that they are doing the job so they may as well wear the uniform & make the fun official! Its worked so many times. Don't you just love gullible friends?
8:54 am
Jera
We had a lot of moms volunteer to be Leaders, but it remains to be seen how many will follow through. I think every parent should register & do basic training. That way if there's an emergency, there's a plenty of official adults to jump in.
8:56 am
Jera
My scary motto is... they'll be running the world in a few years, they need to be taught how to do it well!
8:58 am
Moozey
or we will end up with loads of Becky's running the world <shudder>
8:59 am
snowyowl
How true scary isn't it how much influence you have. It's nice tho' to see the girls coming through . My newest adult leader was my 1st Rainbow guide nearly 12 years ago and that feels really good. hope to speak to you again later. The laundry calls! Yours in Guiding
9:02 am
Jera
Who is Becky, Moozey? Thatcher?
9:04 am
snowyowl
OMG Moozey - Becky. Poor misguided child (guiding pun). I'd almost (but not quite) forgotten her. Been quite peaceful around here hasn't it? and long may it continue> Jera Becky was the 14 yr old a few days ago who wrote in text speak and was generally abusive. The only good thing was that she made me want to spell and punctuate really well!

I don't know about Dr_God's secret formula for rankings, but words/points ratio, improvement, and time spent seem to be weighted heavily. I really don't know though. I have gotten a fairly consistent percentage of the words, completed a few, but I'm steadily dropping in the rankings. I just enjoy the game immensely, and if I can stay ranked among the better players, I'm happy.

Doogle
cbr1965 and others who were discussing rankings earlier:
A couple of things I have learned from Doc God include a) the rankings only look at the last 30 days. So even on a day you don't finish a puzzle, a puzzle you did poorly on 31 days before won't be considered any longer, which may well cause you rankings to go up on a day you don't even play. B) the rankings generator primarily looks at how many people got scores lower than you did. The completion of a more complicated puzzle with lots and lots of words does not, in and of itself, cause your rankings to go up, but the fact that completing a complicated puzzle will mean that there are far more people with scores lower than yours *will* cause your rankings to go up.
That's what I've gleaned...
10:46 pm
cbr1965
I do have the lifting one but didn;t have the warming one - which is funny since I just gave someone else a clue for the shorter form
