So now a U.S.-born American citizen (Juan Carlos Lopez-Gomez), as confirmed by a judge, is being detained by ICE, after being arrested in Florida as an "illegal alien" who supposedly "illegally" entered Florida, also despite the fact that the law under which he was charged has been temporarily blocked since early this month. Next they'll be sending anyone who looks suspiciously Hispanic to El Salvador, then refusing to bring them back regardless of their status, on the grounds that they can't make El Salvador send anyone back. (I mean, they could stop paying El Salvador to take them, but...)

We have many citizens here who are classified as peranant residents that have gone through living hell when attempting to travel to the U.S under the Trump administration. If the paperwork is not flawless they get detained, if a persons last name is not the same as the name on their birth certificate, they get grilled even though the name change was from getting married. It has gotten so bad that travel to the U.S at this time is not safe for many Canadians, and that is sad. Personally, since I am permanant resident, and my beloved uses my last name, we also cancelled our plans to travel to the U.S this summer--we just cannot risk it. It is truely sad how bad things have gotten.

crossy, please know that many of us are taking part in peaceful solutions, because what is happening now is simply unacceptable. And it's happening to U.S. citizens, as you mentioned. My husband and I are planning a cruise out of country in the fall --- unless He Who Shall Not Be Named declares war on Panama --- and as precautions, we are leaving our cell phones and laptops at home; the Border Agents are randomly - and targetedly - demanding US citizens turn over their cell phones/laptops for inspection of content, search history, etc. If a citizen refuses to comply without a warrant, the border agent will detain them.

Again, I am sorry and I don't blame you for not wanting to risk crossing our mutual border.
