It's obvious that the new server was not a good idea. But that is what happens when something is provided for free. The quality control slips.

I do not know the costs involved in providing a rock-solid server over a long period of time, but I am sure that every long-time Babbler would have no issues chipping in a couple of dollars should Jamie need it to save on out of pocket expenses. The lifetime, one time payment we all made was good for a quick startup, but I am thinking that my one time paymentnof $11 in 2008 does very little to keep the lights on in 2025.

I agree with you crossy, about being happy to donate a lil something for the cause. This is one reason I never bought a permanent supporter "badge" on another site I've frequented for a couple of decades now - they have one-year, three-year, and lifetime levels of membership. I always get the lower levels though I could buy a lifetime one. I figure money more often helps more than the one-shot deal.
