So I've done two different things in Firefox, restarted and now it's not doing what it was doing. So I'm not irritated! One was a privacy setting: not to remember search history, and the other was... darn I forgot. I searched "firefox stop autofill" which gave info on autofilling forms, and I set something to delete history every 24 hrs, too. Sorry I can't be more clear.
